Does anyone have an understanding as to WHY there is a shortage of Adderall going on?
I take Adderall XR. Last month, I had to wait a few days to get the full prescription, but the pharmacist was able to fill it partially for me. Today, they told me that they don't have it in stock and neither does their wholesale supplier. I checked with another pharmacy and they don't have it either.
I take the Adderall to augment my antidepressants and also to counteract the sedative effects of one of my antidepressants. I know from forgetting to refill on time in the past that without the Adderall, I feel sluggish and a little foggy, kind of aimless, and feel like napping, etc. That's how I feel today (despite compensating with coffee this morning and taking a really nice brisk walk in the woods with the dog this morning)---already took the nap and feel like sleeping more. I also know over a few days, I will probably begin to feel depressed.
I saw the short thread on what to substitute. I guess I'll need to make an appointment with the psychiatrist to get help with this problem (since my meds and status have been stable for so long, I have been getting them prescribed/refilled by my GP for a few years, so haven't been to the psychiatrist in a long time).
But back to my initial question--WHY is there a shortage?

The DEA restricts the number of pills on the market to prevent diversion and abuse. Apparently recent restrictions are too severe and shortages happening for people with legitimate prescriptions. I also read that the drug companies, given the restrictions on quantity, prefer to use their quotas to sell drugs still under patent and curb production of generics.

Another fine example of laws that only screw people who do something for a legitimate reason.
Sad.

> Sad.not to mention it doesn't remotely work. If it did, we wouldn't have had an OxyContin epidemic. It inconveniences people that require it, and that's it. It doesn't inconvenience drug addicts, because they are willing to pay higher prices on the black market-- something we can't do on the white market.
This is the end of the thread.
