I've done ECT a lot, but it's just a quick fix. cymbalta was good for about 6 months before it pooped out! need rec quick...have to have fully hysterectomy in a week, due to dumb negligence of my obgyn that lead to treatment resistant infection that is killing my reproductive system and causes severe 24/7 PAIN since June 2011 laparoscopy surgery for ovarian mass (benign) any good off label meds? my psychiatrist is open to off label meds!

Did you read about the opioid stuff on Wiki? What else can you tell us about the symptoms of your depression?
The following are some of the symptoms associated with "endogenous" or "melancholic" depression:
Sad or melancholic mood
Inability to experience pleasure
Hopelessness
Helplessness
Insomnia
Early mornings awakenings
Morning worse than evenings
Slow movements (psychomotor retardation)
Loss of appetite
Agitation
Lethargy
Delusions
Feeling of worthlessness
Feelings of guiltThe following are some of the symptoms associated with "atypical" depression:
Increased appetite
Weight gain
Sleep too much (hypersomnia)
Heaviness in the limbs
Sensitivity to rejection
For endogenous depression, tricyclic antidepressants are sometimes needed. For atypical depression, MAO inhibitor antidepressants are sometimes needed.

What happened to SSRI's and SNRI's in all seriousness are they no longer being recommended for any depressions. Phillip. ps sorry to hyjack. How do the two conditions tie in or don't they? Are you on antibiotics for the infection or is surgery the only option? Phillipa
