Good news, but not as good as I was hoping for

Posted by lifelover on April 16, 2012, at 12:04:31

Well after years of suffering it looks like I will be back on Nardil shortly. In two weeks I will meet with my pdoc,we will go over the diet and other precautions one more time, and then from there schedule a start date. My mother will also be there as well so she knows whats going on. Thats the good news. The not so good news is the way my pdoc is going about finding the right dosage. Now mind you, I had a "psychotic" episode a while back where I was hospitalized and doctors said it could be the weed, pcp, insomnia, Nardil, or a combination of them. I was taken of Nardil and have been of for a long time now. So my pdoc is very cautious this time around on putting me back on Nardil. Maybe to cautious. She said that I have to wait 6 months between each dosage increase. Im talking a 15mg increase once every 6 months. Thats way to slow for me especially knowing that I didnt really get any signifigant results until I was on at least 60mg. According to my pdoc's current plan to get to 60mgs would take 2 years and I do not have the time to waste like that. I mean I dont know where else to turn to so Im coming here like guys what should I do about this?! Nardil is the only medication that has proven to be extremly effective in treating social anxiety for me and allowing me to live a normal life and now I feel like Im being played around with. I understand my pdoc's concerns and she really is overall a solid pdoc but I mean this current plan she has does not make much sense to me at all. Theres always the chance though that either a. the nardil will be effective at a lower dosage or b. shel change her plan to better suite my needs so i stay hopefull and faithful. I would appreciate if some people could help me out with this and not get into the habit of ignoring people's posts like people have a tendancy to do on this bored. Peace.

I sure won't ignore you but not having taken nardil can't answer the question but know that I care. Phillipa

I think she might change her game plan after a while, as long as you tolerate the Nardil well and you might benefit from a more rapid increase in dosage.

That's just a guess, though. And, who knows? Maybe this time around you'll benefit at a lower dose or she'll augment it w/ other stuff and you won't need as high a dose because other meds (or some kind of therapy) will pick up the slack.

Lifelover,

I just wanted to say that I share your concerns about your pdoc's slow titration schedule. I think it's understandable of your pdoc to be cautious in starting you on Nardil again, but I also think that there's a such thing as being too cautious. I would hold out some hope that your pdoc might decide to speed up the titration process, but if that begins to look unlikely after a while, I might consider seeking out a second opinion.
