sorry, this is another desperate post about parnate.
it's only been a week (no improvement)i just went back and read how my emsam trial worsened my mood & i resorted to some ect. i gave it a 6 week trial and went up to 9mg.
i know every med is a crap-shoot, but i am scared. i was so excited to try parnate. i decided this was my last hope. is there any mechanism that these two maoi's could have a completely opposite effect for someone?
if anything i'm wondering if i should be weary of trying the higher doses if i don't see any improvement.
as an analogy, i feel like my body has terminal cancer & is not responding to chemo. an illness that has worn on me for almost 30 years.
i could care less of the diet restrictions. i would eat oatmeal the rest of my life if i felt better.

I don't know but last I knew ChicagoKats was starting to kick in a bit. Lets hope it does for you and Kat Also. As for the Emsam I thought it would be a wonderful med as in patch form and could actually see it. Never got to try it as pdoc thought from the responses in other patients she had it would be too stimulating for me. So as far as I know both are stimulating. Just wanted you to know think of you and hoping. Phillipa

Ive noticed a couple of times that it seems like i am not as bad maybe 4-5 hours after a parnate dose (and possibly before). If it is something you are suppose to take throughout the day, i am wondering if it is because it has worn off a little. I dont know.
I dont have the insomnia but have become more fatigued.

>i resorted to some ect.
Are you ok?
>is there any mechanism that these two maoi's could have a completely opposite effect for someone?
They all have slightly different mechanisms of action, just likr SSRIs or TCAs. For instance, Parnate has a little more norepenephrine action than Nardil.
As far as having paradoxical effects, any individual can experiencce it with any given medication. Sounds like you had a paradoxical effect with the Ensam.
>i know every med is a crap-shoot, but i am scared.
You are right in a sense, but you have to remember the effects of these drugs are completely reversible.
>i'm wondering if i should be weary of trying the higher doses if i don't see any improvement.
Higher doses of Ensam? No. Move on to Parnate.
>i feel like my body has terminal cancer & is not responding to chemo. an illness that has worn on me for almost 30 years.
You do have an illness that is life long. I'm sorry you are in pain. I too know what its like to battle depression. Keep trying the MAOIs, there's a lot of them.
Have you ever tried a two medication approach? Two ADs?

Thanks Eric. I am not explaining myself well in my state of mind. I tried emsam about 4 years ago. I knew that I didn't have a good reaction to emsam, but I didn't realize how horrible it was until I just read the history that I wrote.
I just started parnate about 10 days ago, about a week at 20mg now. But even before reading about my emsam experience, I was wondering if I was getting worse. Especially now that I started to notice that it seems like I worsen about an hour or 2 after a parnate dose (Sometimes I have taken it in the morning, sometimes later in the day). I can't say for sure yet, I need to pay more attention for the next couple of days.

Yes, many. And still currently on Lamictal, xanax & Synthroid.
