Ten years ago..no way

It was 2002 when pharmrep was on here pushing Lexapro like his life depended on it. That was bizarre. Seems like last year.

oh geez...Lexapro lol. I think SSRIs are pretty much useless for most of us here. It makes me laugh to think that an SSRI would actually work for me. And if I were still new in the game and it DID work, I would definitely not be visiting this forum.

disclaimer!: I know SSRIs work for some people and that's great...I sure wish they still worked for me. But it just seems it's pretty rare here on PB

I think new studies are showing that SSRI's are, generally, no better than no treatment, even though there are people who benefit quite a bit. Other classes of ADs are a bit better. In any event, no-one should blame themselves, or come to the conclusion that they are unusually difficult to treat.

There are stadies showing that none of the antidepressants work better than placebo, even the "gold standard" ones like imipramine, amitriptyline, tranylcypromine and phenelzine.

Clinical experience disputres this - and genenral, the more severe your depression, the better an antidepressant will work.

I think the SSRI's find their forte in mild "mixed anxiety depression syndrome", the same cluster of symptoms that made tranquilisers the bst selling drugs for 2 generations, rather than in severe endrogenous depression, where other drugs are better.

Yeah, pharmrep. We wanted him kicked off the forum. Some did...it was a weird situation.
