One of my friends is on Amisulpride for schizophrenia. Is it effective? How effective is it?
Any opinion would be appreciated!

Everything I've read indicates that its an effective tranquilizer. Less eps than older drugs, probably less tardive dyskinesia. In terms of how it compares in terms of symptom control...no clue :-(
You might google up some Cochrane review stuff on it or neuroleptics in general.

An nationally-renowned psychiatrist in my country considers it as highly effective, second only to Olanzapine, and he uses it extensively and at a fairly large dose.
Really don't know how it is viewed in the west.
Anyway, thank you for your ideas!

If we take a look at clinical studies comparing amisulpride to competitors we would see that it is generally interpreted as being about the same efficacy potential as the others, with a slight edge over the others in terms of negative symptoms.
In the real world I don't know anyone else besides myself that has taken it, except for others here at pbabble, and I have not often seen it used specifically for schizophrenia. It is usually for depression, anhedonia, or social anxiety. Works good on those at low doses. In that sense I feel it has a significant advantage over the others. Close behind it would be zyprexa and abilify, imo, but amisulpride has the unique characteristic of targeting anhedonia specifically.
I've been on almost every psychiatric med, some from other parts of the world, and I have to say, amisulpride is one of the best.
