A young expert of MAOI dosing is going to be very
difficult. Their Prof's taught them to steer clear.I'm in Houston and had to find a 83 yr. old Doc just
to get an MAOI.I was on Nardil 30+ years and got off when the pharm changed the "non active" ingredients. I played for 2 yrs. with SSRI,SNRI,Vybrid, etc.
I finally went back to a MAOI and that's when I had the problem finding a doc willing to use it.
He feels MAOI's are the best AD on the market. (I also feel that way ) Anyway I tried Parnate for @
6 months. One day was good the next I couldn't get out of bed. Finally gave up and went back to Nardil , 60mg in AM, and 1mg Klonopin at night. I get by.Anyway I went to the internet and read each PDoc profile and when I felt "maybe" I'd call their nurse and asked if the doc was willing to utilize
MAOI's.Parnate is a less forgiving MAOI than Nardil. I felt numerous foods interfered with it and would kill the AD effect.
NYC has to have experts with MAOI's , maybe the college??
One thing I'd advise for you is "you become an expert" read everything you can find, go to forums to see how others are doing, what doses are being used etc.

dude, old pdocs are the best. They've seen **everything**, although they do tend to diagnose lots of people with schizophrenia/schizoaffective.

They have seen everything but senility kicks in after a while hence diagnosing everybody with schizophrenia . Don't mean to be an ageist but that's just life.

hi scatterbrained-
fred quitkin was a maoi expert at columbia hospital uptown. he passed away a few years ago, but i believe there are a bunch of pdocs who worked with him and are also well-versed and in support of maois. maybe start looking at columbia?
i actually briefly went to a pdoc in great neck, long island, who was one of his students and then worked with quitkin. dr. jeremy coplan--he was actually really nice and easy to talk to, but his office hours were crazy and i didn't want to leave the city for appointments. i would suggest calling him and asking if he can refer you to a colleague who worked under quitkin, and also calling columbia and asking about pdocs there who worked with him. he was very well known and respected.
this is a very brief obit of quitkin:

I was going to recommend Dr. Ivan Goldberg but a quick search shows that he passed away last November unfortunately.
You can check out his list of recommened pdocs at:
