Just stopped Ability............

Posted by merry-dove on March 24, 2015, at 10:35:13

I just tapered off Abilify after gaining 50 lbs over the last couple of years. I currently take Effexor, Klonopin, Concerta, and Vicodin. I have atypical depression, GAD and CFS. I didn't really think the Abilify was doing anything for me but after being off for two weeks I realize that it was helping me a lot. I need to lose this weight so I don't want to start back on it. My problem is I have NO energy. Can barely do anything but sleep. The Dr. started me on Deplin 5 days ago but it hasn't helped yet. How long before I know if it's going to work? Any suggestions? Thanks!

usually you would be able to tell within a week if deplin would be helping you should at least notice a little lift if you notice something id give it more time.
however, i was on that and noticed great help the first day and half, but after that went back down and nothing more. so pdoc took me off it.

If you have bipolar depression, you could opt to give Latuda (lurasidone) it is an atypical antipsychotic approved by the FDA (US) to treat this condition. It is not supposed to produce weight gain. I have never seen it work. You can look at Saphris (asenapine). This, I have seen work, and the person was able to lose her 30 pounds of her Abilify weight in 9 months. I am currently taking Abilify. I have changed my eating habits a bit, and I have been losing weight. It is early, though. I cannot declare victory. I might try Saphris myself.

Deplin is the primary biologically active form of folic acid used at the cellular level for DNA reproduction, the cysteine cycle and the regulation of homocysteine.

It's basically an iron supplement. Whether it will help your depression is unclear.

Unfortunately Deplin did not work for me. After 2 weeks I was a basket case, uncontrollable crying and suicidal thoughts. As much as I want to lose weight I had to go back to Abilify. Now I am feeling normal again.
