folic acid v.s l-methyfolate

Posted by rjlockhart37 on December 16, 2015, at 0:50:03

i did some research on these 2, folic acid ia b vitimin and helps with certain nuerotransmitter production but i read that l-methyfolate is the active and more to produce an enhancement of serotonin and dopamine production

i'm on deplin right now 15mg, and started folic acid just as a try.......

anyone know of any diffrence? because folic acid is l-methyfolate but it's like some kind of active form that directly goes into the brain, folic acid takes time and sometimes the nuerotransmitter production is not as direct as deplin

i've been researching it, and yea the only thng i found is methylfolate is the active and more direct form......

any thoughts?

All of my vitamins are of the superior versions, because I think it is wise to assume that if someone has chronic health issues, then it is not a stretch to assume their body is not metabolizing things properly, or that something is interfering. The regular plain jane vitamins on most OTC vitamins are not helpful to medical patients because they may not be absorbed, metabolized, or utilized properly, and most people do not take therapeutic doses, which are quite different than health maintenance doses.

I don't think focusing on one single vitamin is going to get the job done. You've got to span the entire spectrum of things known and unknown. Your enemy is invisible. Nobody has any answer for you. So you have to be like a detective and look under every stone and cover a lot of bases all at the same time.

The best psychiatric treatment I have witnessed in my long journeys include:
1. Whatever meds help.
2. Anti-bacterial herbs.
3. Anti-fungal herbs.
4. Anti-viral herbs.
5. Enhanced versions of all vitamins.
6. Fish oil either high EPA or regular, whichever helps more.
7. Berberine.
8. N.A.C.
9. High dose Vitamin C
10. High dose Vitamin D

I could add more to that. If everyone here were on some sort of cocktail similar to above, I would feel very confident expecting to see significant or even remarkable improvement in most people.

I guess what I am saying is, in psychiatric illness, whatever gets the patient close to remission is going to be wide spectrum and cover a lot of bases. That's because we cannot accurately diagnose any of the stuff that might cause the psychiatric symptoms. We have to cover them all. And in the process, it's all generally health boosting stuff anyway.

The reason the above general cocktail is so helpful is because it covers a lot of bases....toxicity of many kinds, infections of many kinds, building bridges over canyons, helping a broken gene, supporting neurotransmitter production, etc etc.

We may never know exactly what worked or why. But it doesn't matter. The goal is to increase quality of life dramatically. We don't need to know the details or be able to explain it. We just need to know the enemy is fierce, invisible, and relentless, and will not be detected by your doctor. So we have to cover the bases that might be involved.

But that's just my opinion based on a handful of psychiatric patients I have followed. They all got better, me being the worst of the bunch, I got a lot better.

So while I think your questions on folate are excellent ones, it highlights a major mistake most of us make, in focusing in on small things rather than big picture.
