I've been doing a bit of research on agents which can protect microglia cells in the brain. This can be due to trophic effects on microglia, or by reducing microglia inflammation.
Minocycline
Omega 3
Magnesium
Lithium
Agmatine
Niacin
Cannabinoids (specifically cb2 activation)
Rosmarinic Acid
Certain antidepressants

Minocycline produced a mild improvement for me, but I developed skin discoloration in my legs after about a year. I stopped it.
