I think that people *ought* to be able to "attack" another person's attitudes or viewpoints without making it personal. But in reality, that's not how it works. Too often, personal insults are cloaked in the guise of simple disagreement; and on the other hand, some people take sincere and reasonable disagreement personally.

(BTW, I'm not trying to say that any of this was what either Diane or Nikki was doing. Just a general thought.)

Disagree, yes, but not "attack". That isn't supportive. It implies forcefulness, unfriendliness, bitterness, injury, threats, etc.:

And these boards are supposed to be supportive.
