NOT showing new

Posted by kiddo on June 16, 2001, at 23:35:21

when I refresh the site, return or whatever, none of the new posts are showing 'new'... I don't have persistent cookies enabled, however, all of the babbles are in my trusted sites, and accept cookies. I checked and there is one from this site

Can ya help?

Thanks,

Lee

Is there some new way to accept cookies from only "trusted" sites? If you can accept cookies from here (and you have javascript turned on), the "new" business should work. Maybe take a look at this thread:

Well, I've checked the thread, did all of the above, and still the same problems.

I use IE 5.5, and if you go to Tools > > > >Internet Options > > >Security > >Trusted Sites >Add

type in the URL that you want to add, and then click on custom level... you can specify how you want the security. I wouldn't recommend adding just any site, though. (you'd have to uncheck the https setting in add sites)

And I have javascript turned on as well. It still isn't working.

OK, score one for IE. :-)

Up toward the top of the main page, just before the disclaimers, is the "last visit" date correct?

No, and I've reset everything. It tells me it's unavailable, yet it saves my password..go figure

You know your password, right? You're not just counting on it to be remembered? OK, try this:

1. Clear your browser's cache.
2. Turn *off* cookies.
3. Quit your browser and reboot your computer.
4. Turn cookies back on.
5. Give it another try.

Crossing my fingers,

Bob

Ok, did all of that. Password is correct, and I've tweaked my settings, etc...

Now the new won't go away!!! This is ticking me off... only because I can't figure it out.

Thanks

In IE, just clearing the temp internet files does not clear cookies. Use show files option or navigate to the file where they are located and delete them.

Thanks for the info, but I've done that.

kiddo - This is a long shot but is your computers clock set correctly. Does it show the correct time right now? Jane

Oh well. A couple more questions. Does your last visit date/time still show the same? What version of IE do you use?

I'd just like to note that my settings are now acting up so either Dr Bob is making changes to the script or just reading about your problems is contagious.

yes, still the same.IE Version 5.5. I've gone through and changed all of my settings, installed and tried Netscape. I'm at a loss here. I usually have this much trouble with fixing this kind of stuff.

If it's the latter, maybe we should hang out a quarantine sign :-)

Then it must be Microsoft :-)

And it turns out mine was never broken. I just got a little careless changing the settings. Kiddo - If you ever figure out what happened would you mind posting it? I've gotten curious now.
