Do ''new'' indicators go away when post is clicked

When I first loaded the boards tonight, there were a bunch of yellow "new" indicators at the end of posts, and I notice that they are gone after I happened to click on most of those "new" posts. Do the "new" indicators go away after a post has been clicked on?

I came on here and there were a LOT of yellow "new" indicator tags ... then when I posted something and clicked on reload to get it to appear, ALL of the "new" indicators disappeared! Is this supposed to happen?

How will I now know what is new and what is not?

Why did they disappear like that?

Yes, because those that had been "new" become "old" and those that had been posted since then, like yours, were now "new". See also:

The link http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#flags, takes you to the part of the FAQ that refers to the 'flags' or new indicators. It should be at the very top of the browser.

The flags (new indicators) are updated with each visit to the site, or each refresh (reload on some browsers). At the very top of the page there is a button named 'previous new indicators' along with the last time of your visit. If you lose them by accident, try clicking on that button and it should bring them back for you.

Hope that helps-

I click on that link (http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#flags) but it does NOT take me to the part of the FAQ that refers to the 'flags' or new indicators!! That's what I expected, but it takes me to the top of the FAQ's in general (to the first FAQ - what's this all about or something to that effect). Hmmmmm ???

Thanks for pointing out that at the very top of the page there is a button named 'previous new indicators' along with the last time of your visit. The unobservant one never noticed that before ... HOWEVER ... I repeatedly clicked on that button and it did NOT bring them back for me! Hmmmmmmm #2 ???

Hi there again-

Do you have Javascript and/or cookies enabled? Those need to be enabled before they'll work properly.

I think you said you're using IE (I hope).

Click on Tools, Internet Options, Security, click on the Internet icon (the globe) scroll down and enable JavaScript and make sure cookies are either enabled or set to prompt. Since I visit this site constantly (and hate anything put on my pc that I didn't request), I added it to the "trusted" sites. If you'd like to do that-instead of clicking on "Internet", select "Trusted Sites", Sites, and then type in the URL http://dr-bob.org and uncheck the "Require https:" THEN click on add, click ok, and then ok again....

Hope THAT helps :-)

Hi Kiddo,

You are very nice to keep returning here to help me figure out the freaky flags - LOL!

Yes, I DO have Cookies enabled, but I do not see anything specfically called "JAVASCRIPT" - the closest is just general "SCRIPTING" and that IS ENABLED also. So, question #1 - is "Scripting" the same thing as "Javascript?"

Yes, I AM using IE (version 5.5)

I don't quite understand the concept of "trusted sites" - you said that since you visit this site constantly (and hate anything put on your pc that you didn't request), you added it to the "trusted" sites. So question #2 is what exactly does this mean? What is a "trusted site"?

Question #3 is how does a "trusted site" differ from one that is not designated as trusted?

Thanks SOOOOOOOOOO much for your kindness and patience. :-)
