Could be the same IP address as she was using previously.. if she's on dial up, she'd probably get a new IP each time she dialed up, but if she was broadband she could have had a fixed IP address

here's the skinny on the poster. she was on the other forum. many, many sheenanigans were pulled. many angry people. many. this a.m. i was alerted by a e.mail that she might be here. i came, i read and e.mailed the administration. i knew her style, punctuation, etc.......and i'm hopeful that we've ALL read the last!! fayeroe

I suspected immediately when I read R's first post, too, and that is why I did not respond to her. But it was just a "hunch". Does Dr. Bob have a way of confirming your hunch that it was a blocked poster?
I guess Nikki kind of answered that. But what if someone were to use different access points?

If someone were really determined to post here, there is bascially no way to completely block them (been there done it all with my stalker!)... I'm not gonna go into details here cos I don't want to be giving people ideas!!

As a historian of US popular culture, I am so worried that the great movies, tv shows and jokes of the past few decades will be lost soon. I know that TVLand and Nick at Night show old tv shows, but there are many that are not shown, and lots more movies and books, on which we draw our "common" jokes and references. Sometimes I hear a broadcaster on tv say something that is a line from a 70s tv show or movie, and I think, do kids even get that?
I almost insulted one of my students, though, not knowing he is almost 30, by making reference to George Romero, and asking if that was too obscure a reference. He responded that he isn't THAT young to not know of the Romero zombie movies. So now we trade .wav files of Monty Python quotes!
So not only did I notice the Soilent Green reference (which I found out last night is the name of a metal band these days too, by the way), I am grateful for it!

Unfortunately, internet groups, chat rooms, things of the like can be a Mecca for some highly questionable activity like lying, conniving, and tormenting. One can find those who prey on the giving and kindness of others, some will use their illnesses as a convenient excuse – as if they have no behavioral controls. Shamefully, a few spoil what can be a good thing.

I think after a while of reading posts and going through some games people play and all that, one develops sort of a 'spider sense' about ruses and hoaxes. Or spotting dishonesty. Not at 100% accuracy, of course, but there are a lot of posts that I wait and see about now, as compared to when I first started posting here.
And, in this situation, I'd not be surprised if a couple more didn't crop up.

On the one hand, I don't like being made a fool of. But... I dunno. I think I would feel worse if I didn't welcome someone who needed welcoming.
I guess I've always felt that what other people do is what other people do, and they need to answer for that themselves. But what I do is what I do, and I'm responsible for that no matter what other people do.
Do I have a big bullseye painted on my back?

Musing as well.
What I love about the internet is what I dislike about the internet - the anonymity. Ten years ago most of us didn't have the opportunity to interact with people from all over the world who share similar interests (or who are dealing with similar issues/problems). I have met some great people who, in turn, have become great friends on the internet (including my husband).
Some have crossed the line between "message board and real life" by stopping in to visit when they’re in this area. So far, I've been really, really lucky (note, I'm talking about seven people, including my husband, not a cast of thousands).
The funny thing is, I am very distrustful by nature, so the fact that I have ever extended myself beyond the safety of a message board has been a real leap of faith (times seven).
The anonymity of the internet can be a drawback, but think of how many times a day we are anonymous. Standing behind people in line at the store, riding an elevator with people you may never see again. Passing through a new town can leave me feeling really anonymous, and nothing is more anonymous (and agonizing) for me than a bar. I guess we run risks wherever we spend much time. Maybe it's an odds thing. Example, I’m home most of the day and I see that I could very well develop agoraphobia without the Wellbutrin.
I actually put two and two together the next day after I responded to the “post in question.” When I replied, I wanted to help. ASAP. I’m very moved by the written word, regardless of whether or not it's grammatically correct. If I perceive pain, I react. It's definitely part of my "fixer" mentality.
I was always very afraid that my mother would commit suicide and in retrospect, I guess I thought that if I talked long and hard enough I could prevent it from happening.
I never thought about it this way 'til I wrote this paragraph, so I guess I can walk away from it feeling like I gained some insight (actually, I'm just rationalizing losing fifteen minutes of my time on a Saturday night :-)
My musings started out with a much greater purpose. Then the Ambien started to kick in.
