Dr. Bob Med Board For Us Less Informed People

Posted by Phillipa on July 25, 2005, at 22:05:19

Dr. Bob, I know you read the posts. Lately there have been quite a few people who are confused by all the highly educated folks on PBabble. Even though I was a psych nurse I don't understand. I get just as confused about what meds or how to take a med as others. Please don't say ask you doc as a lot of them aren't informed at all in my opinion only. Could there be a med board that would educate us slowly so we could build up slowly to all the technical stuff. Start with the known neurotransmitters and what they do and add from there. Meds which affect each would be helpful too. As well as definitions of common psych disorders. Thanks for your consideration. Fondly, Phillipa

I second the request - I often just get lost! Plus I also find it hard to post things when I am continually asking what I think are going to be dumb questions.....

If there's something you don't understand on the med board, why don't you just post a reply asking the other posters to clarify or elaborate so that you can get a better idea of what they're talking about?

Ed is very good about doing this but a lot of the others either don't respond or just go back to discussing the more complex things. I'm not criticizing Pbabble in any way just if there was an elementary education board to help others understand. I'm doing much better myself but I posted this really for a few posts that the posters were really confused. Fondly,Phillipa

The opposite has been proposed

Psychobabble Advanced Medications. Or something like that.

For people who are really interested in the chemistry and things like that to have deep discussions about emerging medications and possibilities. If I remember correctly, which I'm not sure I do.

I'm not advocating for that or anything. I just was remembering that it was suggested a while back.

I wouldn't want to overburden him, but maybe just ask him specifically? One question with a new board would be what would count as "elementary" or "advanced"...

How about we name the new board, " Medication 101: understanding the mechanics of pharmaceuticals for blondes like Spriggy."

It would be my honor.

LOL

Dr. Bob, Actually I think Dinah hit the nail on the head. A Board where those who know all the chemical terms might just do it! And Thanks for responding. Fondly, Phillipa
