Dr. Bob - A regulating presence?

Posted by Mc Comfortable on June 10, 2008, at 7:16:14

I know there have been discussions regarding suggestions and the addition of some new bells and whistles to the site. Some of those may be good additions. However, the biggest change to PB I have seen evolve is the abrupt and clear decline in the factor of an adm presence to actually oversee the activity ON the boards.

I might be in the minority in that I like(d) the guidelines here. I have not always adhered to them but I do like them. I like boundaries and I like when people know there are expectations of how one conducts themselves in posting and are addressed when they dont.

I dont see that adm presence as I did in the past. In fact, there was a time it was completely gone for quite some time. I'm not sure recovery has occurred since then. I think it may have led to the decline of the boards mission of support and education as thats what I see on some boards in particular.

I think the deputies do a good job as much as they are able and comfortable but its not their name attached to these boards. I also get the feeling sometimes they are constrained. I urge you to consider what the lack of your presence here has done to the day to day activity that occurs here.

Dr. Bob, I know you have a life outside of PB but I think PB *ran* better when it was *run* --- when it was run with less attention to decoration and more attention to the details of the real and current doings and goings-on on the boards as they pertain to the guidelines in place all posters agree to be accountable towards when registering.

I agree wholeheartedly. (nm)

It's a bit like an automobile -- one might want to make a priority of dealing with the engine and the internals before doing any additional fancy body work.

Both can be done. I would just like to see what I consider more important first.

You and the other deputies do a good job and even while I have received a few adm nips that were deserved because of rare momentary lapses in judgement, I think you all do the best you can with the limitations I believe you must operate within.

I would like to see Dr. Bob pop the hood more often and with more interest than I've seen in quite some time.

*indeed, Bob is not around much at all these days. I think thats why he wanted deps and rules to have this place work w/o his presence, cuz he doesn't have much time for babble in his life at present. Mayhap its still his baby, but he just doesn't have the time for it. That'd be my guess.

> I might be in the minority in that I like(d) the guidelines here. I have not always adhered to them but I do like them. I like boundaries and I like when people know there are expectations of how one conducts themselves in posting and are addressed when they dont.

*I do not mind most of the guidelines here, and mostly they are followed. I screw up from time to time, but then given the nature of this site, isn't that to be expected, especially when one is triggered?
I do have issues with the length of blocks and how BOB applys them.

> I dont see that adm presence as I did in the past. In fact, there was a time it was completely gone for quite some time. I'm not sure recovery has occurred since then. *I think Bob let us down BADLY. BOB did. Many have not recovered from his seeming abandonment and subsequent hit or miss followup.

> I think the deputies do a good job as much as they are able and comfortable but its not their name attached to these boards. I also get the feeling sometimes they are constrained. I urge you to consider what the lack of your presence here has done to the day to day activity that occurs here.

*I agree that the deps do what they can. I don't have a prob w/deps. Bob kinda dumped the job on them, they didn't really know what they were signing up for :-(
Sorry, but I like it better w/o Bob here!!!!
He just jumps in and has a tendancy to block on a seeming whim. Then not block on another. He frustrates me in that he does not seem to listen, or if he is we are not speaking the same language.
I think if Bob is willing to commit lots of time to babble, then fine, be here, it WAS nice when he was here lots(other than blocks), but if its to be hit or miss, and ongoing unexplained long absences, and lack of communication as to what is going on.....well, I'd rather he NOT be here at all then, other than popping in as needed and requested by his deputies. At this point, I do not feel I can depend on him at all to be a consistant presence here.

> Dr. Bob, I know you have a life outside of PB but I think PB *ran* better when it was *run* --- when it was run with less attention to decoration and more attention to the details of the real and current doings and goings-on on the boards as they pertain to the guidelines in place all posters agree to be accountable towards when registering.

*I just think, if Bob were to ever honestly answer you, he would say he does not have time, its not gonna happen, end of story. But being Bob, he's likely to say nothing at all.
Best wishes to you,
These are just my thots.
I do not hate Bob, but I am dissapointed by his behaviour here.
I know of many posters that are uncomfortable posting here because of Bobs ways and lack of communicating things to us, his unreliability, and never knowing if he's gonna be here or gone for a month.
And I have not been here much lately...but it seems things have not been going too badly here w/o Bob?
Maybe not.
Take care,
M

I am trying to not fool myself into thinking things can be as they once were. I feel like an old f-rt doing the: Well, in my day . My perception is it was really different but I guess people who were not present during those times do not know of anything being different. Those times had their issues also. I still liked it better.

Most of the time, most of the boards do self-regulate but some, appear to me, to struggle more with that. I feel a: get used to having an inch and miles will be taken, does happen.

I've talked myself a lovely pale shade of blue, to no avail. So I do think hoping things will go back to what they were is a futile dream.

It makes me sad.

as in makes me sad also, and even after all this time, a little bewildered?

For some reason, I want to know a "why?" as I can't seem to accept the time thing even if I probably should. I TRY not to believe Dr. Bob was invested until he no longer used it as research fodder. I hope he realizes a number of posters have been invested "just because" and I wish he would put some consideration into that.

I know the usual directive seen here of: "It's voluntary, so if you don't like it or find it intolerable, you don't have to stick around ---".
I also know what bait and switch feels like : (

*bewildered is right. He used to go thru all the boards. You could refresh and follow Bobs postings. I was fairly, hmmm, I dunno the word, but I wanted Bob to be good and stuff, and I had strongish feelings, but they were VERY mixed due to Bobs behaviors and lack of 'real' communication. But it felt safer and secure that he was 'watching' over the boards.

*yeah....I try not to think why he has dumped babble...kinda sad :-(

> I know the usual directive seen here of: "It's voluntary, so if you don't like it or find it intolerable, you don't have to stick around ---".

*babble WAS special in some ways because of Bob, but he was also the source of alot of controversy. I think alot in part to his blank slateness, so people made of him what they wanted.
But what I realize now, is what brings me BACK touching base here is the POSTERS, the PEOPLE here. There are WONDERFUL people here.

> I also know what bait and switch feels like : (

*yeah :-(
Sorry you guys are hurt. I used to feel pretty darn badly, but not so much now.
I did have some slight attachment to Bob, or I WANTED to, but I could never truly undertsand him, so I kept a distance, so it was easier for me.
Thats why I been posting on admin for a long time about how I am GLAD Bob is gone.
He hurts too many with his comming and going, all unannounced.
He just kept hurting people.
I hope he stays away.
Sorry you guys.
M

i beleive that after all of this and everthing that has gone on while i was here and when i was gone shows that bob knows he hurts people but doesn'
t choose to stop his behavior. babble is probably alot of work but i think tht if he doesn't want to do it that he should turn it over to someone who does.. It is important that he is here on a regular basis and doesn't just show up to slap someone for doing something they probably didn't know was wrong in the first place.
