You know, if my insurance paid for supplements, it would be so much easier. I think physicians prescribe these awful meds (I only took Zoloft for five weeks of hell and have had two weeks of withdrawal...) because the pharmaceutical reps are constantly in their offices (I see one trying to talk to the doctors every time I go for a visit). If the health care system in the US paid for supplements like they do the phamaceuticals, we would all have doctors that are better informed about alternatives - and we'd all be healthier.
By the way, my doctor feels terrible about giving me Zoloft. After what I went through, I don't think he'll be handing out any free samples to anyone in the future without thinking long and hard first...
I went to a naturopathic physician. He gave me "prescriptions" for vitamins and amino acids. But, I had to pay a mint for his time (insurance doesn't cover it) and for the supplements. I'm thankful I had the money - he helped me with the withdrawals. Also, I see a hynotherapist. Very, very helpful for anxiety. Would recommend it highly. In fact, saw Dr. Andrew Weil on CNN the other night. He feels alot of anxiety related health issues would be helped by supplements and hypnosis.
You know, before I had the anxiety and depression issues, I never realized how powerful our minds are - and how important it is to take care of our thoughts and what we put into our bodies. This has been a great learning experience.
