Hello I am doing some research for a friend. She is 37 years old and will have a hystorectomy this week. She doesn't want to take hormone replacement therapy and is looking for alternatives.
If anyone can suggest some sites for me to read or have any personal experience they would like to share, I would greatly appreciate it. This woman lives in Britain, so I don't know if she would have access to ALL alternative meds.

As you probably know a hysterectomy is an instant menopause....
My experience is a slow menopause....I have used:
1. HRT (when the hot flashes woke me up every 1/2 hour at night. )
2. Promensil (for a longtime this worked then it just stopped) This has a red clover.
3. MegaFood Women Over 40 (this is what I ended up with that keeps me from hot flashes)
4. Some people use Vitex or Chaste tree berry
others use black cohosh. These herbs work on different problems. I suggest you try something and keep a diary of what works and what doesn't. It's all so personal and it keeps changing.

Can your friend find a naturopath to work with, someone who has knowledge of supplements or herbs available there? I used to try herbs for various reasons based on what friends said or what I read on the internet, etc. I ended up buying many things that didn't work for me, and I have found that the things the naturopath suggests for me to use are almost always helpful.

I think that would be best. But she lives in a small village in England and is very secluded. I will of course mention it to her.

It is natural and it works beautifully for me!

Hi Maxime,
Your friend has probably had ths op. by now and I hope discussed her options with her doctor in more detail. A second medical opinion would also be a help as oestrogen does a lot more than just control hot flashes....
My cousin had this op in Oz(I'm assuming it is a total hyst with ovary removal) and here they automatically get(unless I guess they object) a tiny oestradiol implant under the skin...which my cousin says makes her feel the best she has ever felt.
Older natural post menopausal women and those getting a hysterectomy are in two very different situations...some post menopausal women have large amounts of adipose tissue around their waists...this acts as a oestrogen store, so they don't need supplemental oestrogen. This is not usually the case with those younger women who have a hyst...and their bodiew ahave a longer need for the oestrogen.some further reading http://goddessdiet.com/estrogens.htm
My Mum and her friends all tried red clover without success...again not in your friend's situation.
