Would taking amino-acids make you bulk up?

Sorry if that's a stupid question, but if taking protein powder is supposed to, then would taking supplements do it?
Thanks.

Its not stupid, aminos all have a job as a single amino, togther they form protein and overall health.

But yess weight lifters have and do use stratergies of certain ones to bulk, mainly they use the ones responsable for gh release during rem sleep.

Some of the ones claimed to be used in stacks (combos) for growth are l-glutamine....Gaba....L-arginine....l-orthinine.

There is debate as to whether this works,bu these aminos play some role in growth, and its figuered taking alone in hig doses, usualy between one to two grams at night before sleep on a empty stomach help rem sleep and in crease growth.

Most also agree its best to cycle, meanig use the techinique for a period of time and stop, stopping gives the body a chance to balance itself.

The aminos are best taken on a empty stomach to avoid protien competition of abosrbation...and usualy with a small carb snack or juice to help drive them.

I know ghb a natural substance albeit still a "drug" for me had a gh producing effect. Also a even though gaba is said not to get into the brain, many buidlers swear by it for the rem sleep to grow....a popular brand is gaba powder by AST.

Look up the body building google group, youll see this very topic discussed many many many times!

Thanks willyee. I don't want to bulk up at all, so are there only specific amino acids that do it? I'll google it too.

No, amino acids in small amounts will not "bulk" you up. To make muscle you need all the essential amino acids which you can't get from individual amino's so it's not a threat there.

The supposed GH releasers are snake oil. Nothing at all to worry about.

If you're a woman you most likely don't have to worry about "bulking up" anyways. Testosterone is largely responsible for the gain in muscle mass and women only have about a 10th that men do. Only women that use steroids have to worry about this. What would cause you to gain some muscle mass is to lift very heavy weights, like 5-10 repetitions to failure and to eat a high protein diet. I myself consume about 375 grams a day of protein. Even if you lift weights to "tone" in the 15-20 rep range you have nothing to worry about. The gross women you see on bodybuilding magazine use heavy amounts of steroids to look that way. You aren't going to change your body over night anyways. :)

Don't be afraid to eat protein though. It's largely responsible for fat loss, and looking more "toned", and I'm sure you want that. ;)
