my mental situation is weird, need help!

Posted by Joey Joe Joe Junior on September 14, 2006, at 18:45:53

Hi, I've actually been a member on this forum before so I know a lot about it and all the different alternatives there are. Basically my story is that I've been struggling with health issues for years now, mainly mental problems. In that time I've gone about treating underlying things that may be causing these problems, such as heavy metal toxicities, candida, and more recently I've started treating methylation imbalances I may have. I am almost certain that I have high histamine levels due to these methylation problems, possibly histadelia as I can really relate to the symptoms.

Through my many many treatments of taking supplements etc I am feeling so much better, and my health is a lot better. I am much more calm, and much less anxiety and depression and specific phobias like social anxiety have faded somewhat, and I can handle them better. My problem now is very apparent to me, and really has been affecting my mental state. I feel better but apparently I don't look better! What I mean is I must be giving out an external sense of anxiety or something which is not true to how I feel inside. I have noticed that people avoid me in social situations, they don't want to look at me, they downgrade me and ignore me, some people have actually commented that I look angry and lots of people suggest that I need to relax all the time but I'm like "i am relaxed".

I don't believe this is simply just me being paranoid or that I am still really anxious and its showing on the way i look. Its real! The way I justify this is that throughout the years there's been times when I've been real anxious or depressed or whatever, and people still want to be around me or talk to me, and enthusiastic about me. Must be something to do with my nervious system tensing muscles in my face or something so that I look scared or anxious, something to do with my eyes?

I seem to remember that certain supplements have relieved this in the past. When I took picamilon people always wanted to be around me and talk to me, but I still felt high levels of anxiety while taking it, so mayb I should try this again. Maybe i need something to relax my nervous system? I'm pretty sure when I took gotu kola people wanted to be around me too.

I know this all sounds weird but can anyone relate? Any suggestions?

I can relate. Nothing from supplements, but from meds. I had my brain go in one direction (thinking I was doing fine, getting better, nothing wrong) while my body was going in another (gradually worsening "stiffness", cogwheeling, anxious energy).

Got so bad, my T finally convinced me to allow her to take me to the ER. I was pretty certain nothing was wrong with me at all, but I was having a nasty interaction between two meds I was on that just kinda slowly built up.

i can relate as well.

two things for me:
1) i'm naturally hyper-self-conscious, so i could never know whether people think i'm weird or if it was just me over-thinking it;

2) when i've taken a lot of different supplements that are psychoactive, people might start to think i'm unpredictable in my behavior, and thus may be a bit standoffish.

if i were you, i'd hang in there, try to smile and be sociable, even if it's awkward. so what if they think i'm a bit nervy...

if i get too hung up worrying about them seeing me as anxious or whatever, i'll have trouble relaxing...try to remember past social successes...

if your situation is like mine, i don't see a complete supplement solution to this. some things seem to help and some probably hurt.

i can't really control how other people view me, but i'll have better luck if i work on my approach or my attitude, but the battle never really ends, cuz the sh*t wears me down.

>I feel better but apparently I don't look better! What I mean is I must be giving out an external sense of anxiety or something which is not true to how I feel inside. I have noticed that people avoid me in social situations....

This is SPECIFICALLY what botox can "fix"! I tried a very modest amount of it, and have been absolutely FLOORED by what a difference it has made. I mean, night vs day difference. Used modestly for "vertical furrows", it makes it much more challengeing to frown or look worried when you don't wish to, but you can still make any expression that you want or need to- except perhaps a super-exxaggerated theatrical style scowl (which is not really that useful anyway...) My social life has undergone an absolutely radical renaissance, I smile much more as a result...and it's all snowballed in the most wonderful way. People actually actively approach me now rather than ignore me or avoid me, awkwardly-as they did when I was in the depths of despair last winter. Biggest problem now is I am not used to handling so much attention! My social confidence (and confidence in general, stemming from so much positive social reinforecement) has utterly bloomed.
I couldn't possibly gush enough...

And oh yea...the "vertical furrow" muscles push down and in, so when they "relax" back up and out, your eyes actually open up just a bit, too!

Sure, it sounds weird...

There was a small pilot study this spring about using botox to treat depression, and there is a description in this Washington Post article:

There is currently an active thread on the topic on the regular babble.

thanx guys. Botox aye lol, would not have thought of that. Might consider it if things get too outta hand.

At the moment tho I am doing better. I've discovered something, or at least I think I have. I recently started taking theanine again and people have been responding to me better! I know its weird but its true, and its not like my mood has changed much or the way I act in social situations has changed. I still feel the same. So from this I'm working on a theory of the relationship gaba has with these symptoms I'm experiencing. I remember like a month ago I took a pill of theanine before a party and people were responding to me so well all night, best night I had for ages, but after that nights when I didn't take it people seemed to ignore me, or be awkward around me. I even notice it with my own family, its horrible. I also remember when I took picamilon I had the best period of my life I had had for ages, socially that is. When I look back on it, during this period people treated me so well, I was socially much more accepted, and yet I still had moderate levels of anxiety and or depression. The picamilon, if I remember correctly, also helped with a lot of other problems like my skin, which came back after I stopped taking it. Hmmm, definately onto something here.

I think to a lesser extent st john's wort helped too when I look back on it, and I think that it is gaba enhancing too..

I've also been exercising a lot more lately which I think has been helping but not as much as the supps! Gonna order more picamilon, theanine and mayb some straight gaba also and see what happens. I also have under-methylation issues which I am treating very well with methionine, but also gonna order some SAMe, which I'm sure will help a lot
