Has anyone tried TMS or know much about it or can suggest some good resources for learning about it. I believe ECT actually destroys brain cells but I don't think/know if that is the case with TMS. It recently got approval in the US. There is some promising work being done at MIT. There is a treatment center in Canada that has treated 600 people. It is used for depression and other ailments.
From what I understand it essentially involves placing electromagnets on your scalp at particular areas and energizing the magnets. I don't know about the details of placement or frequency, etc. I think you may experience some involuntary movements as the procedure is performed, but you are not anesthetized and are awake during the process.
One of the websites I looked at discussed some of the research at MIT and the researcher had the view of it as rewiring your brain.

ECT, though it can damage the brain, has been shown to create neurogenesis in a monkey's brain. So ECT sort of creates and destroys at the same time. At leas that is what it may do.
I am very interested in getting a course of rTMS and continuing on with medication therapy. I feel like my brain needs some healing in a big way and rTMS may give my brain some of what it needs.
