Where is a good place to buy supplements online?

Posted by Deneb on October 14, 2009, at 16:20:07

I want to get a good price on some biotin and ch-OSA. I live in Ontario so shipping is a consideration. Anyone know of any good online stores?

I've done a lot of shopping at iherb.com mainly because they have so much stuff. Kind of like a superstore of supplements. So much that it is confusing to navigate the site sometimes. I don't know if they have what you are looking for.

There are many good sites. I ended up ordering from iherb because they had everything I wanted, so I didn't have to order from 2 or 3 different places. The order arrived in 3 days.

Whether shipping is from southern USA or right across the border I doubt there will be any difference in the shipping charge.

The best thing to do is type the supplements you want into a goodle search and explore 2 or 3 pages of results to make a list of places you can order from. Then go visit those places and explore where they are located, shipping times, whether they ship to Canada or not, and such.

Prices can vary a lot from one site to another. A month ago when I bought a bunch of stuff I found one site selling various things I wanted for about $39 a bottle and another one with same exact stuff same brand for $22. So it pays to shop around. Takes time, but worth it. The money I saved paid for shipping several times over.

Thanks for the recommendations. I will have to take a look around.

I just shopped at iherb. I searched online for a discount code and found some. I ended up getting 11% off my order.

I got some omega 3 fish oil, ch-OSA, vitamin D3 and biotin.

House of Nutrition has reasonable prices and they ship relatively quickly. What I like about them is price and also, I haven't had any mistakes made with my orders to this date.

Vita-Cost and The Vitamin Shoppe. There are a lot of deals running on a regular basis if you are a Vitamin Shoppe member.

The online store iherb is touted as a good source for supplements. I have also had good experience with Vitamin Shoppe and House of Nutrition. Another big online store is VitaCost.

I've bought a lot of stuff from Puritan's Pride. I bought some L-tryptophan from iherb at one time and I thought it was making me nauseous so I returned the unopened bottles.

Don't know about shipping costs to Canada.

Supplements are tricky because they are not regulated. There is an outfit called Consumer's Lab (not to be confused with Consumer Reports) they review supplements to ensure that the label agrees with the contents and check for contaminants. For example in their review of fish oils they found some where the breakdowns didn't match the labels, etc.

Only problem is it is subscription service and they don't review every brand, but usually there will be a dozen or so of a particular supplement and then you have to hunt around and see who has them. I think the cost is around $30/ year for access to the website.

From what I remember the Puritan's Pride reviews were favorable.
