Ginger for the circulation

Posted by Lao Tzu on May 2, 2010, at 14:31:42

Ginger is very good for the circulation, including the brain. I have been taking some everyday for the past month, and it does help. I only take one 250mg capsule per day. That's all I can stand. When you first start taking it, it causes a warming sensation in your body. This phenomenon eventually goes away after a couple weeks. Ginger is also a mild stimulant, which can be good for people who have low energy. I find that it is more stimulating at a lower dosage, say 125mg. It is not a great stimulant, however, but it is very good for the circulation. One source says to combine ginger with gingko for circulation support. I can't take gingko because I take certain medications.
I find ginger a very nice herb to add to my regimen without a lot of drug interactions. Most herbs I cannot take for this reason. Check for herb-drug interactions if you take any medications. It could be contraindicated.

For me, ginger helps with my depression when added to my other vitamins, but that may be anecdotal. It may not help everyone. Most herbs I've tried I really don't like. Ginger is one that I like, however. I love the smell of it as well. It's very strong. I haven't had a lot of success with other herbs that are touted highly, like ginseng. Hated bacopa. I don't seem to do well on herbs that directly affect the CNS, with the exception of kava kava, which really did help with my anxiety. I guess this is because I take a lot of medication, and the herbs don't mix well.

Just wanted to warn people not to take it on an empty stomach because it can cause burning (at least for me). I've only taken it for nausea, for which it works very well. Hmm... I didn't know that it has AD effects. Might have to experiment with that. Thanks for the info.
