Since I've added magnesium citrate and a little chelated calcium, I've been feeling a lot better, less fatigue and sleeping better. What I do is I take a rather high dose of magnesium citrate, about 650mg per day and 500mg of chelated calcium. In the late morning or early afternoon, I dose with 200mg of magnesium citrate. Then at bedtime, I take 450mg more of magnesium citrate and 500mg of chelated calcium. I tend to sleep much better, and my fatigue and outlook is improved the next day. I don't owe all of the success to just magnesium and calcium, however. I do take a number of different vitamins and minerals, but the magnesium citrate and chelated calcium have definitely made a difference. I find that you have to take a rather high dose. I started off with 250mg of magnesium citrate, then gradually worked my way up to 650mg per day. I'm not sure if I should go any higher. The RDA for magnesium is about 400mg for an adult, but one source did say that the RDA should be changed to 600-700mg per day. So I think I'm just going to stay at 650mg. I could go higher, but I don't think I have to. Don't use magnesium oxide. It's junk! Stick with the chelated forms of magnesium and calcium. They work! Also, if you have kidney disease, it is best to check with your doctor before supplementing with magnesium. Also, a high dose of magnesium could give you diarrhea, so then you would know that you're taking too much. This didn't happen to me yet.

I'm up to 550mg of chelated Magnesium at bedtime along with 500mg of chelated calcium. I sleep better. I have heard that the ratio of Calcium:Magnesium is important, and that some people do better on a 1:1 ratio. That works better for me. I've even read that some people actually need twice the amount of magnesium to calcium. Will post any updates as the weeks and months progress. I also have a little more energy during the day because of the Cal/Mag supplement.

Magnesium and calcium seem to work together in a yin/yang type of relationship. If I take too much calcium, while I have lots of energy I start to get a bit tense. Not enough calcium, and I may lack energy. Magnesium is the candle and calcium is the flame. I also find that I am getting a bit leaner (with exercise) by taking these two minerals. This is important because I naturally have high cholesterol (or a condition/deficiency that causes high cholesterol) and I take an atypical antipsychotic which is notorious for causing weight and blood sugar problems.
