Held my own in a dance class

Posted by ClearSkies on September 20, 2006, at 9:22:16

I went to a line dance bar last night. (With my yoga teacher, who is my friend.) I dug out a pair of cowboy boots I bought in 1994 and haven't had the heart to discard. They must have been magic because I stomped and shuffled and twirled around with the rest of the beginners. Absolutely DRIPPED with sweat - I looked like I was running a marathon.

But I did it. My yoga teacher was impressed but "not surprised", as she put it. Aside from needing to be wrung out like a towel, I had a good time.

And if I didn't post it here, I'd minimize this even more than I already have...

Minimize it? That's HUGE.

I remember when you ran from dance classes out of fear, even when you really wanted to be there.

I'm proud of you.

And a big hug right back at you.

I'm amazed at *all* the progress you've taken in the last year.

Hi Clearskies,

Had I done line dancing or any kind of dancing the people around me would have sore feet and shins from me kicking them.

Don't minimize your success! It's a biggee.

Cyber air hugs.

I find that if you dance at the very front of the class, it's much easier to follow the instructor's dancing, and that the dancing of others around me is easier to filter out. If I don't do that I spin in the opposite direction from the rest of the group. Also I like it that it's acceptable to dance with or without a partner. Much less intimidating to learn it solo.

I bet you would do fine if you brought along a friend to provide encouragement for each other.

For me it was safety in numbers. I make sure a support person is with me which helps to keep me calm. Also identifying what was making me feel so anxious about going out.

What have you tried to do to make your anxiety less?

Clear Skies keep going out in babysteps. Seems each time I do something bad happens? But I keep on trying desensitization doesn't seem to work as for every good I do a bad thing happens. For instance I scraped old tape off a boat to help Greg. The owner when I told him he had a customer said boy you're in a bad mood and you have a scowl on your face. I can't help it it just goes across my nose even saw a plastic surgeon and they can't remove. today I confronted him I sat across from him in the chair opposite him and you hurt my feeling yesterday told him how much it hurt, he said go home and get Laid!!!!! I still can't believe he said that but needless to say I cried all last night. Love Phillipa ps Greg is only using his facilities to paint thought I was doing him a favor as the lady had been back in the back of the marina for around 30minutes.

Hi Racer,

Better go with ClearSkies unless you have shin guards. When I took *land* aerobics I used to kick people right and left. That's not a pun, it's a fact. That's why I stick to water aerobics the water acts as a barrier.
