Can anyone tell me of how to find a doctor that will prescribe medication for ADHD/ADD/Attention Deficit Disorder in the Washington, DC, area? I can't seem to find one. I would like to find a doctor that can help and prescribe Dexedrine/Dextrostat/Dextroamphetamine or Ritalin/Concerta/Methylphenidate for my ADD/ADHD problems I have.

This information is from eight years ago, so may not be applicable now, but my son, who has had ADHD his entire life, was evaluated by Dr. Maureen Donnelly at the time he left for college 8 years ago; he was prescribed Ritalin. Dr Donnelly specialized in ADHD in young adults, and at that time was a professor on the medical faculty at Georgetown. She is still at the same address in the phone book: 5225 Pooks Hill rd., Bethesda, MD. Tel 301 564 6083. I thought she was an excellent doctor, and, presumably, she is still there doing the same thing! I hope this is helpful.

I just realized that I didn't tell you how things turned out for my son- the Ritalin (large doses) really helped -even though he had had such a difficult time in school as a child, he's now a year and a half away from getting a PhD in atomic physics at Princeton! He can focus mentally so much better, but is still a study in constant motion. He invited us up to see him give his first lecture as a graduate teaching assistant, and managed to FALL OFF THE PLATFORM in the middle of his talk! Everyone gasped and then laughed, but what a tiny problem compared to the one he overcame- and it is funny! Now, his students watch him racing back and forth, arms flying, and wonder when he'll do it again!

Thank you for Donelly's contact information in DC and MD. I am aware of the good work Ritalin has brought about, and I'll check soon to see if Dr. Donelly can help me.
This is the end of the thread.
