A Beautiful Mind Essays

I discovered this by accident and found it such an interesting take on emotional/mental health, I wanted to share it. I especially got a lot out of his discussion of idealism vs. realism.

It's not about meds, but it is a unique take on how we frame things, plus things we can do (that don't seem impossible).

Thanks Shar. I bookmarked it. What I've read so far ties in beautifully with the mindfulness stuff I'm reading about in DBT skills manual.

"Isn't it peculiar that everything that we see is just light entering the pupil of the eye and everything that we hear is just sound waves hitting the eardrum."

That one struck me, because I often am overly aware of that. :)

Thanks Shar. I read the first half or so and it really cheered me up. The part about how we're products of nature, and the natural effect of social acceptance or deprivation, somehow those ideas just really take the pressure off. I like the notion of accepting separateness too. After reading all that, I felt a big sense of relief, like my human life is simpler than I've been making it out to be.

Interesting, T, because that's just what I felt--a sense of relief and that things MAY just be going along pretty much like they ought to be. What a concept! I felt a little lighter-hearted.

D, I'm glad you found those interesting also, and that you'll have some time to peruse them further.

I wrote to the author after I read them (just a short email) and he had just put them up a few days ago....talk about synchronicity...and said it gave him hope that he'd done a good thing after all by posting them.
