Mr. Dressup as Comfort

Posted by Susan47 on March 4, 2005, at 13:19:54

Does anybody know how comforting Mr. Dressup can be when you're all alone, lonely, aching with pain?????? I'm so lucky. I have Mr. Dressup.....................

You mean Mr Dressup like on the CBC with Casey and Finegan?
Or the kind that you blow up?
:)

Yes, the first. And maybe even the second, if I were to dig that deep :).

I always wanted a tickle trunk like he had. And an owl on the wall who would have a conversation with me.
I would get a lot of comfort from Mr Dressup right now myself.

It sounds as if you had a lot of comfort from Mr. Dressup when you were a child, too.
Maybe you can tape an episode and have it in the background when you're feeling blue. I'm not kidding, it's an amazing comfort.

Wow, now you have me thinking... I don't even live in Canada anymore, but maybe my brother could make me a tape. The show I'd really want would be Chez Helene, but maybe that was a regional one (Montreal) about a mouse and a lady...
Oh, and my absolute favourite, The Friendly Giant.

I remember Chez Helene, it was SO CUTE!!! I don't think I've seen it for thirty years, though. Omigosh that would take me back.... And of course Friendly Giant, he's ubiquitous, isn't he? Rusty ...

I lived in Ontario for a few years when I was a small child. I really miss it. There's something about the atmosphere there, in my childhood, that I miss.. and remembering Chez Helene I think maybe it was the Quebecois ...

OK, so I have been researching how to get a recording of these shows - I can't find them available commercially, drat those CBC-ers! But it's made me think of so many other shows that were so quintessentially Canadian that I loved then and now.
The Beachcombers.... even Hinterland's woodland tips about our native wildlife.
OMG I am becoming patriotic - I think I've lived abroad too long!

CBC used to broadcast something called Fraggle Rock. Was that Canadian? I loved that show. WHenever I think of things that are no longer available, I think of Fraggle Rock. I miss those Doozers.

Oh, yes, Fraggle Rock was a gem, too. My mum got me a book, "Mondo Canuck" and it's all in there!

When I can pay the fine, hah, THEN I'll take the book out, good thing I found that cassette tape set yesterday. That cost me a tich.
I wish I were someone else. BUt not just anybody else. Someone who's good, and kind, and smart. Someone who is loyal and trusting to her friends, someone who always knew how to trust herself and evaluate herself properly, a woman who lived without fear, not the one who exists inside me now, the panic-stricken little waif who needs extra confidence artificially inseminated before she can feel good about looking into the mirror. But no, I just described myself, I am the good trusting loving kind and smart person... I'm the one who wants the scaredy-cat to go away, go 'way and leave me alone. I shouldn't say it that way but, that's really how it feels. Like a little kid kind of having a fit.

that little kid is you, too. » Susan47

And some days I'm close to the person I want to be (today's a pretty good day), whereas most days I lament over being nowhere close!
It's all there inside of us, Susan. Some days it's more accessible and we can get a glimpse of the strong, wise woman we want to be. Some days we are looking in from the outside and wishing we were that woman.
It's all OK, it's all real and not a crazy thing! I think our abilities flex in the same way our bodies do. Some days I can touch my toes; others I can only wish I could do it.

OMG, I'm stunned that anyone remembers Chez Helène`, .. I loved that show, I just loved it.
you just brought back so many memories. My sister in her flannel p.j's "wake up, it's time for Chez Hèlene"
I guess there's nothing to say to that, it's just that I haven't thought about that show since I was 5...

Yes, and wasn't there a cute little mouse? What was her name?
Mice are really "in" right in in my daughter's classroom. You have to have a mouse to be happy, I guess.
