My diagnosis confirmed

Posted by Shy_Girl on April 21, 2005, at 15:40:42

I never thought there was a real need to get a diagnosis from my pdoc (since diagnoses are not as important as symptoms, and because labels don't really matter if they don't help).

I got curious and desparate enough to ask today. I've been seeing my pdoc every week since my incident with the aspirin and the hospital. She would find time to squeeze me in because she was totally booked. I realized then that perhaps my problems are a bit serious...since she doesn't usually see people that frequently.

Anyways, she told me I have recurring depressions, a borderline personality and social anxiety. I was 100% correct in my self diagnosis! I wasn't upset at all. I was relieved.

I asked her if I should take low lose anti-psychotics on an as needed basis for my dysphoria and she didn't think I needed to.

I'm happy that she thinks my prognosis is good because I don't have a sustance abuse problem and I have good insight.

I'm going to work hard on changing my behaviour and thought pattern from now on. I think I'll start by seeing if I can maintain relationships here at babble and control my emotional outbursts at the same time.

Thanks for reading :-)

Glad to hear your diagnosis wasn't distressing to you, and that your prognosis is good.

Changing behaviour and thought patterns can be hard work, but it sounds as if you're prepared for it. Good for you!

Finding out your diagnosis can be a relief. No more wondering what the heck is wrong with you. Things just seem to make a little more sense. *hugs*
