I dropped some of my classes, good I think

Posted by Happyflower 1 :-) on August 26, 2007, at 7:45:49

I just can't do it, school starts this week, and it is just too much, and I have to be a mother too. I can't drop being a mother, so I dropped some classes. Only 7 credit hours now, one major class and 4 very minor ones that should be easy.
I think I need to do this for myself, this therapy is different, it takes so much out of me. I just think I will have trouble studying and remembering stuff when I have so much on my mind.
I think this is a good thing, my advisor will just have to understand. I need to concentrate on me, I need to give me space to heal.

I found this picture after cleaning up my office a couple of weeks ago by Mary Engelbreit, with a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson. It says...

Be not a slave of your own past-Plunge into the subline seas, dive deep, and swim far, so you shall come back with self respect, with new power, with an advanced experience, that shall explain and overlook the old.

I like it, I have it hanging by my computer, it has a picture of a women on a diving board, ready to dive into the water, with her eyes closed, but confident.

Good for you Happyflower. I'm a full-time student, and it is hard to study after therapy. I don't have problems with remembering, but I tend to just lay my head down on the book and remember stuff from the session for 20 minutes at a time and then study for 5 minutes, repeat. I remember what I do study, but it's hard to make myself do it. So I think it's good you're taking time off. I would think it would be hard to be a mom and take much more than one or two classes anyway.

Good luck. When do your classes start? Mine start the day after Labor Day.

That is the poster! lol I tore it out of the magazine when I used to get the subscription. I thought it was very true and inspirational too!
Thanks!

Hi Sunnydays,

I used to be a full time student too, well until now, lol, I have dropped two classes in the last month. I start this week, I don't have a class on Monday, so my first will be on Tuesday.

I think it is good you can think about your session and then study for awhile, I am not so good at that, especially when emotions get intense, I lose my concentration. That is why I got in two auto accidents this year, so I have to be really careful. I know I could probably have taken all the classes and if I was okay with B's, then I would do it. But I am on this 4.0 streak, so I want to keep it going as long as I can.

Well, what I was trying to show was, the concentration is gone for me too. I try to study, but get maybe 10 minutes of studying in an hour of trying to study. I've tried driving after a session too, and that's not good either. Can't seem to pay attention then either. I understand the 4.0 streak thing. I have that desire too, but I'm starting to learn in therapy how to loosen up a little bit because it often comes at the expense of my social life. Still, I've never gotten a B. I'm trying to learn not to overstudy though. I don't think I need to study as much as I do to get As.

Anyway, I think it's good you're taking care of yourself.
