Had a very endearing session

Posted by Happyflower on April 15, 2008, at 12:25:43

Yes, at the end I said I think I am avoiding stuff, but what we didn't talk about "nothing" though.

We talked a lot about being a T, and what it means, and what it does to your life.

We also talked about how survivors who have healed, are some of the strongest people out there. But knowing who will become a survior and who will still stay a victim, there is no way to know really. There is something though to it.

I told my T I hope I can be as good as he is.
My T told me he thinks I will even be a better T then him, for the stuff I have gone through, and have survived.

It was a very heartfelt session, we talked about a lot of stuff, all important. He was the most relaxed I have ever seen him, talking from the heart. His honesty has healed me and helped me trust him more than he will ever know. It is kinda scary though too, I am kinda waiting for the other shoe to drop. But it hasn't.

Happyflower I used to be called a survivor. But as a future T what do you look for? As a therapist? Love Phillipa

Hi Phillipa,

I am not sure what you are asking... I am feeling kinda weird in another world, can you explain more of what you are asking me?

Happyflower what characteristics in a patient as a therapist would look for that would indicate they were the survivor type? Love Phillipa hope that's clearer

Well he told a very few people can come away from what I have gone through, still having a functional life mostly and then to go to where they become highly educated and successful after healing. He said I am in a very small minority of those who do very well in school, but when you add what I have had to endure, it makes it even more amazing. I didn't grow up with education being valued, heck I wasn't even valued.

He said a majority of those who have experienced like I have, would either be in prison, addicted to drugs or be in a mental institution.
He said studies are being done on why some can survive and thrive and heal, and why others stay a victim or live life in very unhealthy ways.

He told me I bring so much more experience from my life for being a T, so much more than him in the beginning, that he feels my personality plus who I am will help me become an effective T.
Lots of stuff like child abuse, marriage for 14 years, not all happy, being a mother and a stepmother, grandma, problem MIL, living with a spouse with OCPD, dealing with a lot of deaths, so much crap or experience he calls it will be useful in the profession, so much more than a typical graduate student.

Happyflower seriously will you be my therapist . I am serious as that is the type of person I'm looking for and yet to find. Any way you know of finding someone like you for me here in Charlotte Nc? I'm being very serious. Love Phillipa

Oh, Phillipa, I am flattered, but in the mental state I am in, I couldn't be effective being anyone's T right now. Plus I have many years of training to do.

If I knew someone in your area, I would tell you. In fact I have several relatives in the area that need it way more than you. lol

I think if things are not working with your T, it is so worth it to take a chance and change. You know how much my old T meant to me, but I had to terminate because he wasn't helping me.

I just lucked out with my current T. I just looked for a T who did EMDR, I called for a women, but she was on vacation at the time, and I asked the lady if there was somebody else in her center, and she gave me my current T.
Good luck Phillipa, keep looking, you will find the right one.
