Myers-Briggs Type Indicator

Posted by susan47 on August 26, 2008, at 12:52:54

I am an INFP; bound to be what I am, I wrote about it on Writing, wrong place to put it, but in any case here I am. When something doesn't go along with my inner values, I stop cooperating, adapting, and I become just who I am. I am my values.
Okay, so when I don't live in line with my values I am very, very unhappy.
(extreme unhappiness = mental illness?)
In any case, the MBTI is an interesting tool and extremely accurate it would seem. I wonder if my borderline Dx (plus depressive, but isn't that part of bordlerine? Is it? It's the way of perceiving that's the problem, and I am a perceiver... hahahhaaaaaaaaaaaaa)
F*ck it.
I had trouble remembering it is an INDICATOR not an Inventory.
So I see this.
A car, the car is me.
A road, that's the life paths, the career paths.
The car's indicator, that's the Myers-Briggs.
I think these women were brilliant, and necessary.
Thank you for confirming who I am.
Thank you for making it okay to be me.
Thank you thank you a thousand times thank you.
I love you.
I love you.
I love you.
(Susan47's new mantra, now and forever....)

I just took a free on-line test and I'm an INFJ. So was Mother Teresa. That made me sputter - not exactly comparable! (also Nelson Mandela and Nicole Kidman)

It was interesting. I think I've taken similar tests as part of team building exercises when I was in the working world.

For what it's worth I test out as an INFP also.
"INFP-Idealistic, loyal to their values and to people who are important to them. Want an external life that is congruent with their values. Curious, quick to see possibilities, can be catalysts for implementing ideas. Seek to understand people and to help them fulfill their potential. Adaptable, flexible, and accepting unless a value is threatened."
But I mistrust labels. What's a "questor" anyway?

I'm INFJ right on the border of INFP. (In other words, I give every "I" answer, somewhat fewer "N" answers, fewer still "F" answers and it's usually a 1-question margin for "J" over "P" - I've taken a few versions of this over the years)

Perhaps we now have an alphabet soup label for people who tend to wind up here...

Hey! Let's give this one more try. I'm an INFP as well.

Although I must admit everytime I take the test I get a different classification.

I used to be an ESTJ.

Seldom

Hah! My girlfriend just laughed, hooted when she heard I took the test, and she asked "DId you take it straight, or stoned?" and if course I told her the truth (Straight) but were I stoned I suspect I would've tested more E, although I don't know if E goes with all the other letters, as my Introvert was my strongest. What do the percentages mean? How do you evaluate their meaning? I wasn't extremely strong or even strong in anything, I think this means I am learning to be more balanced ... when I remember to give it the effort, Still, when I read "Writer, poet..." I started to cry, absolutely cry, thinking "What a strange quarter for validation to come from" (I didn't say I was a good writer or poet, or even intelligent, okay?) but it really does validate who I am inside. When I read "Minister" I thought, yes that would explain the religiosity in my nature (is religiosity a word?) and I guess it explains why we correspond on other boards, this group none of you guys are new to me and usually the only respondents I get, if any.
It takes a lot of people to make a world.
A lot of different people, feeling different things.
Wow, this is revelatory, guys.

It would almost seem so, it's absolutely amazing when you consider that 1% of the population is INFP (or 4.4%, I don't know which is accurate) and INFP is also likely to be interested/involved/working in the field of psychiatry/psychology. And there are writers in our group, too.
Amazing.

Where does it say that, "questor"? What's a questor? The New Shorter Oxford English Dictionary, has this to say, paraphrased as follows:
1 RC Ch. An official appointed to grant indulgences on the gift of alms to the church, 2 In France: any of the treasurers of the National Assemby, 3 A person who quests or searches for something.

Wow. Is that all of us, then? How many of us are there gathered here as INFJ or INFP?
4? 5? Amazing. I'll bet there are more lurking as well.

ISTJ: "Serious, quiet, earn success by concentation and thoroughness. Practical, orderly, matter-of-fact, logical, realistic and dependable. See to it that everything is well organised. Take responsibility. Make up their own minds as to what should be accomplished and work towards it steadily, regardless of protests and distractions."

What do you think?

Over the last 15 years my type hasn't changed but I seem to be moving more toward the middle on all measures. My original 'I' score was way out there.

And yes Susan, I'm still reading you.

If you're still reading me then do you think I'm nuts? I think the general consensus around here is that Susan is a nutbag. A nutcase, a real squirrel.
ISTJ - opposites attract I think I love you Damos.
Just kidding.
Did it make you want to run and hide?
My ex-T certainly does that well.
He's an expert at ignor-ance.
Damos, I think I need healing. Do you known a Shaman? Because if it's true and you've been reading, darling, then you know I'm looking for a Shaman and I'm interested in retrieving the parts of my soul that flew away all those times in my life when it seemed unbearable.

Now Susan, I don't think the consensus is that you are a real nutbag, I think the consensus is we all like you and care that you are in pain. I think you think you are nuts and that is just not the case.

Maybe Damos can change your mind.

> If you're still reading me then do you think I'm nuts?

Hmmm, are you talking beer, salted or roasted? Kidding, just kidding. Seriously Susan, I'm extremely allergic to nuts and I haven't broken out in a rash or had to use the epipen (adrenalin shot)in response to you yet, so I guess the answer is no.

Susan, I don't think you're nuts - never have. I think that right now you're just in one of those periods of stuckness you go through sometimes - that we all do now and again.

> ISTJ - opposites attract I think I love you Damos.

Well there had to be somebody ;-)

> Just kidding.
> Did it make you want to run and hide?

Nope, why would it?

> My ex-T certainly does that well.
> He's an expert at ignor-ance.

Or just maybe the lenses through which he sees the world don't allow him to see certain things. Maybe he unconsciously wanted/needed what he got from you - and that realisation scared the cr*p out of him. He is the only one who knows.

> Damos, I think I need healing. Do you known a Shaman? Because if it's true and you've been reading, darling, then you know I'm looking for a Shaman and I'm interested in retrieving the parts of my soul that flew away all those times in my life when it seemed unbearable.

It's weird you know, ever since I was a little kid the idea of a vision quest has always appealed to me. Damn! I was actually reading about a therapist just the other day who incorporates that kind of thing into his practice, now where was I reading that. I'll see if I can find it. He's spent time with all kinds of traditional healers all over the world.

Susan, maybe right now you just need to forgive yourself - even just a little, because that process is immensely healing. I know it feels like two steps forward and three steps back sometimes, but I have faith in you Susan. You will get there.

Hi Damos,
I've contacted a Shaman who is coming over to my place on Thursday. Going to do a little soul retrieval work. And hopefully I will make it out of this bad patch o.k.
Thanks.

Cool!!!!!!

You have to write and let me know how it goes okay. Well, I guess you don't have to but I'd really like it if you did.

And you see how wise you are; 'this bad patch', that's exactly what this is Susan a bad patch. You've had 'em before, you'll probably have 'em again and....you will get through it.

Enjoy your healing
