DBT interpersonal effectiveness statements....

Posted by B2chica on August 25, 2008, at 15:36:57

just going over my old DBT workbook and came across these "cheerleading statements for Interpersonal Effectiveness"...i thought i'd share some of them this monday. i must say i S@ck at all of them. happy monday everyone.

1. it is ok to want or need something from someone else.

2. i have a choice to ask someone for what i want or need.

3.Standing up for myself over "small" things can be just as important as "big" things are to others.

4.i sometimes have a right to assert myself, even though i may inconvenience others.

5.There is no law that says other people's opinions are more valid than mine.

6.i am under no obligation to say yes to people simply because they ask a favor of me.

7.if i say no to peple and they get angry, that does not mean that i should have said yes.

I like these. I will have to transpose them into my journal .. and probably never look at them again ... but then again, maybe it will be an important part of my own DBT.
I hope I get through this okay, better even than okay.
How are you doing, B2C?

I really like those, B2c. Thanks for sharing them! I really should put them on a giant posterboard and hang them in my apartment so I see them all the time - but I've found that sometimes things I see all the time are less effective than things I see occasionally because I ignore them after a while, so maybe I'll try to think of something different. Thanks again.

Good for you for advocating for yourself. Med shifting is always uncomfortable. I might take a look over on the meds board, put in my two cents', not that anyone ever answers me. How come I feel so ignored? Sigh. I think I have a reputation for being difficult. Do I?

I don't know what I was responding to, but I don't know what my last post was actually referring to "Advocating for yourself" ... I don't know what I was talking about. It sounds like you are going through hell all right I'm sorry, I know what hell is I'm there too but hopefully I will survive and so will you, I wish I could be more positive, I will look at the meds board.
