i'm not jacked. i have podge. from eating too many marshmellows and drinking too much beer.

also from not exercising enough...

the idea, however, is that sometimes one goes about in head circles. and sometimes the way out of head circles is to do something.

like...

if i get a bit more serious about my exercise then i find i have the actual genuine desire to eat less.

sometimes it's hard to schedule something... if it is a study plan for intellectual activity.... sometimes it is easier to schedule a 'study plan' for 10 push ups.

then the physical activity deadline... meeting the plan... can carry over to another aspect of life.

that's the idea.

sometimes you find yourself stuck up against a wall on discipline. there is a particular something that you want to do and you don't seem disciplined enough to do it...

sometimes the way forwards is a step sideways. sometimes the way forwards is to schedule and meet and accomplish something... tangential. then that gives you the strength or disclipline or... whatever... that is required to meet the original goal that you had...

don't know if this makes any sense....

I was just joking. I'm not jacked either. Also have a few lbs too much. It comes with being on high doses of Seroquel and Zyprexa

I remember I got quite large from some combination of Seroquel and Epilim. Medications can affect metabolism, that's for sure. Hard to tease things out with motivation and medication and hormones etc from fat. Kudos to you for working on this stuff.

I would like to be more self-disciplined, too. I have been trying to study independently this year and I do not feel that I make the best use of my time quite a lot of the time.

External deadlines really help me. I mean, I do better than most at independent study. But I never do as well when left entirely to my own devices as I do when I feel some pressure of exams looming or something like that. If time feels scarce then I find I am able to make better use of it.

I have been applying for part time jobs. I will likely make better use of my free time if I get a part time job.

Too much free time is not good. I can attest to that.

Yes.

I don't quite know what you mean by self-discipline. In what way do you feel / find yours to be lacking?

Well, I set goals for the day and then find I can't do it... Not enough motivation. I feel overwhelmed by the tasks.

Maybe set goals that are more readily attainable to set up a pattern of success?

I don't know that I set goals, particularly. I have things I need to do that mostly get done. Things I feel I *should* do but probably won't. More recently quite a lot of busy-work work that seems only designed to chew up a lot of everybodies time so the money can just keep on going the way the money has been going... Just wasting and chewing up and consuming everybodies time...

I like it when things are busy enough so that I just flow from thing to do to thing to do without feeling like things have stopped and I need to get things started again. Overcoming inertia is hard.

I should probably set more goals for myself, though.

What sorts of goals do you set that you struggle with?

Hey guys,

thanks for the responses. Well right now I don't struggle that much. Just a little bit. I am studying and lifting weights mostly, so these are my goals. To get a bachelors degree and to build a powerful physique while getting the degree. And I am doing psychotherapy twice a week.

I will take a close at the books you recommended. I am unsure If I really lack discipline or if I am still somewhat depressed. Maybe both is true at the same time. I guess healthy people don't need as much discipline because their (brain)Chemistry is more aligned towards getting things done.

I get it done mostly, but I certainly could speed up my studying.
