Choosing new hairdresser - trust me, read on!

Dr. Bob,
Obviously redirect this if it goes elsewhere, I had no idea where to post it though. It does involve an interpersonal relationship. I have been searching for a new salon, I get horrible haircuts at my old place. I found a great new place but I'm not too happy with the one I got stuck with for my first time last week. I know they have much better.

I had no referrals, so I just had to go in blind. What's the etiquette with something like this? I can't just go around testing the waters trying every stylist in the salon! What do you all usually do?
