Anyone info re: Temporal Lobe Perfusion Defect?

Posted by dari on November 20, 2000, at 8:22:36

My brother whom I haven't spoken to in a LONG time, has been told after SPECT scans that he has temporal lobe perfusion defect. I don't know what it is, and other than the fact that he is 46, on SSDI/SSI for this condition, probably bipolar (someone told him he was), unequivocally unemployable, extremely bright but unbelievably acerbic/bitter/funny/__hole - you fill in the blanks... please educate me on this condition and ramifications of such a "diagosis".

Thanks in advance. dari

Dari,

I don't know anything about this condition, but I have a friend of the family who is a doctor and have a message in to him. I hope to have an answer for you within the next 2-4 hours. Sorry for the wait.

Long time no talk to, how are you doing?

Greg

> temporal lobe perfusion defect

Try putting it in the medscape search engine and/or http://www.google.com to see what comes up...

Google returns 10 hits using the forced phrase "Temporal Lobe Perfusion" so you might
find the answer there.

A search on the exact phrase "Temporal Lobe Perfusion" at Hotbot produces 11 links. A general word search there of "Temporal Lobe Perfusion Defect" produced around 700 links.

I looked at few. Those pages seemed fairly complex. The essence I got from it though is the the condition we are talking about involves the brain possibly not being able to be properly supplied or nourished with blood.

It seemed to be related to a number of disorders including Autism, AD, ADHD, OCD and other disorders which can stem from improper brain function. It also seems that it can originate in different ways.

Take what I say with some salt though, since I'm not at all knowledgeable of Temporal Lobe Perfusion Defect.

Good luck,

James and dj and bday,

Before I posted this request, I originally looked in msn explorer as a general search with no luck. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I still don't really understand what this condition is and the ramifications/impact are on Billy but this is helpful nonetheless. In that we don't generally talk (my bro and I), he will not reveal how this impairs him, cause' he is pretty impaired. He intimated that this explains a "fugue" that he had when when he was 5 and wandered off a beach in Lima, Peru (only to be returned 1 day later by a peruvian family after widespread publicity linked to his disappearance, yikes!). He also said that apparently the MD said that this might be environmentally originated ie childhood trauma, shitty childhood.

Well, in that my brother and I won't likely talk again in the near or distant future, I guess I'll keep looking and guessing. Thanks again you guys, I appreciate all that you do.

Hi Greg: I posted a response to your message last night and somehow it was lost in cyberspace. Thanks for looking into this for me. Things are going alright here on this end. Generally stable moods, really busy raising my 10 y/o, a couple of masters level courses and a part-time job in the mix and I am generally over-committed as usual. I always look forward to reading your compassionate posts, as usual, reading more than posting. I hope that you have a pleasant holiday!

take care and thanks again... any info on this subject is greatly appreciated! Dari
