Any advice??????
I don't know if anyone has read my posts above concerning surgery.... but I'm told I HAVE to quit... and anything I can do to help in aiding my healing I want to do.
Has anyone tried hypnosis for it??? I know, it seems like the wimpy way out... but I'll be going thru a lot, and I don't want to add withdrawal to the list.
Thanks for any wisdom that may come my way!!!!

I've tried this and quit for four months but hubby kept on smoking, so I started up again. childish on my part. It helps now when I want one but can't. Nicorette gum can help too.

Willow,
Thankx for the response. I asked him about the gum and the patch.. but the doc doesn't want any nicotine in my system at all.
That's why hypnosis sounds so good to me. Even if it was for 4 months... it would get me thru the healing. Did you literally walk out of the hypno session not wanting a cigarette? I find that hard to phathom.... but love the idea. Thanks........

kristi,
i haven't had a cigarette in 4 days now. i went all out and got the patch, Nicorette gum, and herbal cigarettes.
i think it'll be v. tough not having any nicotine in your system (the gum helps me a lot). herbal cigarettes and kind of weird and gross, but sometimes you just want to puff on something, and they are tobacco-free, nicotine-free, etc. all natural.
how long have you been smoking? how much?

Sar,
Good for you on the 4 days!!!!! That's great!!
Herbal cigs, never even heard of them. Health food stores have them? Very interesting. I'm not allowed to have any nicotine in my system at all.... long story, but I'm on my 17 surgery and had to make a pact with my doc to quit... before my next surgery which is next tuesday.
I'm very interested in these herbal ones. I think if I puff on something.... personally, that will help me alot!!!!!! thankx> kristi,

kristi,
17 years?! damn girl, i'll be praying for you...(i'm pack-a-day for 8 years)
headshops sell herbal cigarettes. yup, the same places that sell yr bongs and cloves also go the herbal way. some brands: kick'ums, exstacy, and tribal. (have heard kick'ums are best, but they were out of them when i went. tribal is the worst, but i smoked a whole pack (over 3 days, and gave a bunch away)
i warn you, they are nothing like a regular cigarette. they burn fast, are very smoky, and smell like incense. there's no "aaaaahhhh" in smoking one. but i like to have something burning in my hand when i'm sitting around drinking tea. it helps somehow.
good luck to you. i call cigarettes my baby-momma, my home. but time to find a new one--

Kristi,
I quit smoking for 8 mnths after hypnosis. I think the reason I was able to is I HAD TO - like you. (Complicated pregnancy.) About 6 mnths after my daughter was born, I started again, I think in part because the major reason to abstain was gone. Interesting how I'll quit for my daughter's well-being, but not my own :-)! Have you thought about acupuncture? My pdoc quit cold turkey after a session of acupuncture, and he says he wasn't even trying to quit. Next time, I think I'm going to try that. One addiction at a time...:-)Marie

I'll try to explain how it works to you. Maybe you can try it the principles without the hypnosis to see if it will work for you. The urge for a cigarette will pass in two minutes if you can hold out. (Besides the physical addiction their is also a lot of psychological jargan involved. For myself lighting a cigarette has literally become as natural as taking a breath of air.)
Here's how to do it:
Practice taking deep slow breaths in and out.
Say to yourself, "It feels good not to need a cigarette." OR "It feels good to be a non-smoker."
Repeat the line 10 times, meanwhile taking the deep slow breaths. After doing this take a drink of cool water or chew on your favourite flavoured sugarless gum. You can try this at anytime, perhaps the next time you desire a cigarette. Make sure you brush and floss your teeth it will help to get rid of the taste. When you decide to quit have your teeth professionally cleaned.
Let us know how it goes!
BEST WISHES

Willow,
Thanks!!!! This is my plan... thanx to your advice. I talked to a hypnotherapist today on the phone.... she said the same thing you said.. the urge will pass after a few minutes.... and in that time to snap myself with a rubber band. I'm also going to go now and pick up some of those herbal cigs.... for when I really feel like I need something in my hand(and yes... the lighting part).... then I have the hypnotherapy appt. on monday..... THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE ADVICE. I'll keep you posted..... hugs, Kristi
