I always have to turn to something that kinda leeches it out of me like listening to ALL of Quadrophenia or putting on some Bob Mould (= primal scream guitar as well as voice).

Nick Cave
American Music Club
Frank Sinatra
Kurdt
Billie Holiday
Nick Drake
Patti SmithThe above list is my version of a Religious Experience, emphasis on the Old Testament, which is the side I fall on, nothing against the Son of God.
Other pain artists I like include Merle Haggard, Tammy Wynette, Red House Painters, Portishead, George Jones, Johnny Cash, Chet Baker, The Smiths.
Tough-minded songwriters who pull me up from wallowing w/out turning my head into a Hallmark card include
Jesus and Mary Chain
Yo La Tengo
Jonathan Richman
Replacements
Lou Reed
Kate Bush
X (and Exene)
I'd sure like to add some to that second list, if anyone knows of music that makes them want to keep trying I will run not walk, vs. walk, not run to the record store. Thanks!
This is the end of the thread.
