Hi.
Can anyone here recommend a good brand of stationary bicycle? I'm thinking of buying one for my apartment. I looked in a recent CONSUMER REPORTS issue that rated exercise equipment, but they only rated treadmills and ellipticals, etc.

Hi Bekka,
I'm a cyclist, and I've tried quite a few static-bikes over the years, be it in the gym, or self-purchased.
The problem with static-cycles is essentially the cost.Most are not particularly good (the action can feel 'choppy' and well, just artificial, despite all the electronic gimmickry).
Lifecycles are the best without doubt, but they cost thousands, and take up loads of room- you'll see them in any gym.Kettler are affordable and compact, but you'll need to spend at least 250 UK pounds for a half-decent one.
By far the best option, if you already have a mountain or road bike, is to buy a set of magnetic rollers;the bike just clips into it on the rear wheel, the action is smooth, and you have plenty of gears to play with.They are excellent, very portable, and cost about 80/100 UK pounds.If, for example , you bought a cheap mountain /road bike, and a set of mag. rollers, you get the advantage of being able to ride indoors/outdoors when you choose, for the same price as an inferior stationary cycle.Happy riding,
