work in progress
moments like these
you want to jump out of your skin,
rearrange your bones,
and leave as someone else.moments like these
you realize at last you are drowning,
and no one,
no one will see you waving.moments like these
are awkward as an adolescent’s hard-on,
too bulky to hide,
too base to hide from.moments like these
are cunning, conniving, cruel.
they bite you in the ass
with your own teeth.and when your back is turned,
you will sneak up on yourself,
and you will clutch your throat,
and you will throttle you.but somehow you will get away
and wrestle yourself to the ground.
you’ll go at it like a pair of shadow puppets
or a solitary lunatic.because in moments like these
everything you had ever believed
and everything you had ever doubted
will switch places.lfm a.k.a. beardy

Great poem beardy! I felt my own teeth bite my ass and I laughed my ass off about the adolescent's hard-on! ;-) We've all had moments like these... You made me feel, thanks!

That kicks ass!
Did you know that I used to work at a literary magazine and that I help host an all-girls spoken word even once a month? I find so much work boring.
Your work is NOT boring. It really grabs me by the (eye)balls.
Awesome! Have you ever considered publishing?

Where are you from? Yes, I'se a long time pote. Been this way my whole life. I have been publishing (and reading sporadically) for twenty years, but mostly in Baltimore/DC lit mags. I have been sending out steadily since January (NY resolution), and I've had a few "almosts" so far. But I'm plugging away anyway. I'm not a sensitive type (in this way, anyway), so I have no problem with the rejection letters. I just spike 'em on the spindle and send a new stack out. (I used to be a poetry editor of a newspaper and a lit mag, so I know that rejection is more about your personal taste than what's good. Of course, I only rejected the bad stuff, but I have good taste!)
This poem was in a DIY book--I can't remember what it's called. Everyone brings 100 copies of a poem, and the books get assembly-line stapled, then sold.

> Where are you from?Hey bearded, I live in the once-proud city of Madison, WI. (I actually live in an 18-person housing cooperative. Remember cooperatives?) Right now I'm working and going to school to finish my b.a. in English. Someday I hope to either write, be a librarian, or work in linguistics.
>I have been sending out steadily since January (NY resolution), and I've had a few "almosts" so far. But I'm plugging away anyway.I'm impressed! Almost 6 months of sticking to it! Watch out or you might have a career. . .
I used to write a lot and lately have limited my writings to boards such as this. I feel that soon I will have to turn my mind to creating something new, however.
I'm glad to know that someone else out there is 'living the dream' so to speak.

That was great - I saw myself these days in your poem. Thank you.
