Can anyone tell me what it means for you?
I just want to know the NON-dsmIV definition.

Is that all kiddo? Just the mere thought of suicide fulfills the requirement? I was under the impression that it was more than that. Guess I was mistaken. Not the first time :)
thanks for the reply
Hope you're ok today

as i understand the definition of ideations when it is associated with suicide is not only the thought of killing oneself but having a set plan and time frame that you would carry out your suicide. at least that was what i was told when i went into the hospital for my suicidal ideations

Really kiddo? That's all there is to it? I know you have *defined* the term, but the *condition* has to be more complex. WRT the term, everyone on the planet has suicidal ideation at some point in their lives. There's got to be *something* more to it than that. Hell, I have fulfilled that definition on perhaps a daily basis since I was 9 or 10 years old....

I believe I am suicide ideating when I hate where, when, how, who and why I am. And when those thoughts or questions never disappear, I start thinking of how wonderful it would be for me to never have to deal with those thoughts again. And, the best way would be for me to imagine not being here is to be dead. At times, the beckoning of that desired relief is overpowering and the planning stage takes form. In my mind, that's when suicide ideation swithces to suicide activity.

Bizarre as it may sound, the ideation phase is really helpful in the long run and if I can talk about it in therapy, I am reminded that the "activity" is too drastic. So keeping the possibiltiy open really allows me to make a conscious effort to at least wait out the next minute or second for that matter.

Seems to me that what I've been doing lately falls under the definitions that you have all described. Unfortunately, my therapist is on vacation for 2 weeks and I'm only on klonopin for anxiety right now. Been taking a little more than prescribed but not much more.
Guess I'll just take it one day at a time.
thanks again all
