Does Anyone Else Feel That...

Posted by kara lynne on February 17, 2003, at 12:23:44

...you have to be one of a specific group of posters to belong in this forum? I know it's some sort of sociological phenomenon that is part of this experiment, but nonetheless...

It sounds like you feel you don't 'belong.' If you are very new that seems natural to me, because you don't really 'know' anybody and vice versa.

Like jyl said, all threads are open to all posters, and I would encourage you to feel free to join in any of them that interest you. Plus, you might try the other boards (I only visit a few, so you may already be doing that).

What usually happens (based on my experience and opinion) is that you will find people with a common bond (usually different people with different bonds, not just one topic or something). The deal is to hang, if you want. Post if you feel like it.

I imagine coming to this board for the first time must be like attending someone else's family reunion. There are lots of people, some are closer than others, not everybody likes everybody else, some people you'll think are funny, some not...but initially it does feel like standing on the edges.

Or, maybe not that way at all. I'm just giving you my take on things.

Anyhow, the best thing to do if you want something here is ask for it in a post. The hardest thing is to read between the lines here and try to figure out what someone wants (and that leads to a lot of misunderstandings--like at the beginning of this post I said it sounds like you feel you don't belong, while you may not feel that way at all!).

I used to feel that way. Now, I just join in the threads where I feel I actually have something to give. I guess that's why I don't post too much.

Give it some time and know that we were all new here once. Not all of us had a smooth start, either. Mine was pretty rough, in fact. I got over it. It took a while, but it was worth it.

I guess *my* issues are glaring-- but I got you to post! Thank you jyl, shar and Miller. You were all right on the money with your responses, and I already feel better. I'm so easy.

Kara, good for you for doing that--it worked. Sorry If I haven't been welcoming. I've been a bit overwhelmed with the number of posts, so I may have overlooked some new people. Sorry.

Kara, as you have already seen there are as many differing opinions as there are posters.

Some are very supportive and others share a differnt point of view. It is hoped that all poster show compassion for one another and sometimes "agree to disagree"; honoring the other persons right to their own opinion.

For me I usually can only shared what has or has not worked for me in the past. I also sometimes share solutions that have worked for others I work with in my job situation. Sharing possible options just makes us all more imformed consumers and make our own best choices.

Most of the people here are very savy on their meds and had varied life experiences so you will not doubt read some very INTERESTING things here.
NEVER take anything too personally because it is seldom meant that way. And anyone who gets too crazy, Dr. Bob lets them know ASAP. (I know!!)

Welcome to PSP. I work all week so I dont have much time during the week, but glad youre here!
