Shannon,

Go with your gut. If it feels right , do it. Dr. Bob is tough and will keep the site up for you/us if and when you need it.

You seem to be a great, caring person. If you don't need this post anylonger, congradulations. If you ever do again, though, I assume it will be here and many of your friends will as well.

I think you are an asset either here or in real life, which is where you seem to be better prepared for. I once had a therapist tell me, that his main goal was to get me out of therapy--as in getting me well.

Good luck and God bless, ~tony

Hi JYL,

Only you know what's best for you. And if it's better for you not to post, then I'll miss you, but of course I'll understand. If you need a temporary break or a permanent break, please do what is best for you.

Best of wishes to you.

I agree with daizy--please be sure you are doing this for you and not because someone else has hurt your feelings.

For many, this site only exacerbates problems. And it does cause one to dwell on one's problems.

At the same time, it provides support and a couple of laughs.

Ask yourself a few questions: Have you failed to improve since coming to Babble? Do your feelings of self-worth have to do with others' opinions of you on this board? Do you often dwell on stuff you've posted, feeling you've said the wrong thing? Do posting and reading take up much of your time, time that you should spend doing other things that slip by?

If you answer yes to a couple of the questions, you should probably take a break until you feel better.

Shannon, I wish you all the luck in the world, whatever you decide. Peace be with you.

jyl,
Just a note from another who has appreciated your posts and kind words. I also very much appreciate your honesty and candor, and it does help me in my struggle. Of course you need to take care of yourself first and foremost, whatever that means for you. But I for one hope there is a way you can still post (or not take too much time away!) and do that as well.

beardedlady,
I just wanted to praise you for the excellent posting regarding sorting out if posting or *lurking* on the board is really helping or hurting. Wonderful, insightful questions to ask one's self. I have fallen into the catagory, as a others have, of starting out looking for support.... This can soon give way to the *seeking approval* and becoming *obsessive*. I found my pit would become bottomless. I had to question what I was really looking for. I've found that after a while of frequent posting.... people catch on and realize *neediness* that can't be satisfied. I have received help and support, too. I'm thankful for that. I wanted to really praise you for that insightful look at this peer therapy and information cyberworld (whether that's how it is seen, I do believe that's what this really is) Thanks !!!!

Thank you for your thanks and praise. I have asked myself these questions a couple of times and have limited my posts and reads when I have found two yesses.

It's lovely to vent and get support here. But my house was a mess, and my daughter was lonely.

(Why am I here right now? Eek. Caught. I'm cleaning out my computer armoire and reinstalling the doors part of spring cleaning, so, uh, I have a good excuse.)

Take care!
