I am seriously considering a new career in Music Therapy. There is some amazing evidence of its efficacy in the treatment of autism and other conditions. I believe that music in almost any form is good for the soul.
I have been told that I will be eligible for entry into a graduate course in Music Therapy based upon my undergrad Psych degree and private music education.
Has anybody here explored this fascinating field? Here in Australia it is a relatively new field and I am a little concerned about employment prospects. Apart from that, it sounds like a dream job.
In desperate need of a career change.. I need to do something far less corporate and more humane. Feedback please!

Unfortunately, I don't know of anyone who's practicing it, but I do know it exists here in the States. Sounds fascinating and wonderful. Good luck, Alara, and keep us posted on your progress.

Alara it does sound like a dream job if you love psych and music and want to help people. Regarding employment prospects, I found a wealth of info on the U.S. Labor Dept website, they did reports on all professions, the outlook for future hiring, training required, salary, etc. It was called Occupational Outlook reports. I wonder if Australia has anything similar? Good luck
