Poetry

Posted by kalyb on June 26, 2003, at 9:02:57

Just the last few days, I've suddenly started composing poetry in my head while going about my daily tasks. Then I have to run to the computer to write it down.

A couple of days ago I composed a poem about Spam mail, which had the people I sent it to in hysterics (allegedly).

Today I even had two composing themselves almost concurrently. I didn't write the first one down (I thought I should finish the washing up first) so it's almost gone, but I have a couple of verses for the second, and I guess it might finish itself later on. It's a kind of funny poem about myself.

Is this instant poetry a symptom of anything?
Have I lost the plot?

I've read rhyming and punning and things like that can be symptoms of hypomania or mania but only if it gets totally out of hand. Don't be too quick to label yourself!

just because you're paranoid doesn't mean people aren't plotting against you JUST KIDDING

I thought I might have been too dismissive above-it doesn't have to rhyming or punning I think people have creative surges of all sorts. And sometimes it is hypomania but sometimes it just a creative period. A lot of antidepressants are notorious for setting off hypomania. But I'm getting too serious. I'm under medical orders as opposed to catalog orders or religous orders to stay lighthearted on Babble. Post some of your poetry if you want to. People used to do that all the time :)
