Back to work, gol-dang it.

Posted by Tabitha on July 14, 2003, at 13:03:58

Vacation is over. During my 2 weeks off I discovered I'm perfectly suited to the life of a retired person. Eat 3 meals, putter in the yard, take the occasional bit of exercise, wander the bookstore and the mall. The whole day can be filled with just the basics. Who came up with this 8-10 hour workday garbage anyway?

I can't wait to quit my job. Sad thing is it won't be permanent.

I understand, it is so hard to let go of the vacations. I have one coming up in 4 weeks... Me, 5,000 others, and camping. RELAX.... I can not wait!

Oh, retirement sounds lovely. I can't imagine ever feeling bored. Maybe work will feel better now you've had a good rest.

Oh lord-a-mighty! I know EXACTLY how you feel! I had two weeks off from work, and going back today was absolutely DREADFUL! It's SO freaking sad how many of us do this day after day, week after week, until some year comes, and we look back at a life of wasted opportunities! To have BEEN something, DONE something. What agony! On the other hand, how many people would literally "kill" to have the job I have, with the money and benefits it provides. Those are the thoughts that make me feel even worse, because I really have it "great" compared to some of the people I have seen and known. Especially when I consider the people I saw in Mexico, "living" in cardboard houses, and in Bolivia, having to chew coca leaf all day to stave off hunger from a dinner that was NOT coming that day. Perspective? I guess. Still, I hated every tick of the damned clock today as I felt my heart sticking in my throat. Trapped, tired frustrated. Meaningless; just chasing the wind.

PAX

Chuckle. Yes, you're right. It will probably feel worse. I'm out of practice you know.

I was out 2 weeks and there were only 3 tiny things needing my attention upon return. I barely have any tasks now. Every time a task comes up my bosses assign it to one of the junior people. The only task I have is one I hate, and it's not even full time. I don't get it. The company is strapped financially, I make a large salary, and I've been barely busy for months. Why don't they just lay me off already?

I need to ask somebody what's going on. I want to get laid off, then I get my break and draw unemployment too.

My dearest Tab,

Be VERY careful what you ask for. Just trust me on this one....
