My cat is acting like an Ass.
I'm not sure whats cruel and what is just stubborn cat behavior. Last month Tuna fish was on sale for 25c a tin, which was cheaper than cat food. So I bought quite a bit for my cat, but I knew that he'd get accustomed to it. And I slowly weaned him off it, back to his dry food, which he used to eat..
Now he adamantly refuses to eat his dry food.
He will literally go for days without eating it.
I've tried putting the juice from Tuna on Top of it, and that doesn't work. He stands at his dish
and howls like a siamese cat. Actually he does this pretty well all day, and he's an indoor cat
and its driving me bats!I tried different brands of dry food, I've added
enzymes to make it more digestible. I just can't afford the canned cat food I've tried putting a spoonful and mixing it in with his crunchy stuff and he just licks it off the top and starts howling when its gone. Is he just being a jerk. Should I wait this out? Or am I being cruel? He's not underweight by the way.

Buy some earplugs and wait em out. Really. Sounds harsh but 20+ years of living with cats has taught me a thing or two about finicky felines.
Good luck.
That cat is lucky to have you...might not realize it now but will again once he gets over his hurt feelings.

Gabbi,
I just want to add one thing to zh's excellent advice:
Tuna is addictive for cats. There is something in it that causes an addiction, and for that reason veternarians recommend against it on anything more than a (small) special treat basis. So your kitty is also going through withdrawl. Think of as coming off effexor. :-)

Aw thanks Gabbi.
I was just thinking of your cat's hurt feelings--and he will have them.
Make sure to put out small amounts of dry food fresh once or twice daily whatever is the norm. Make sure there is ample fresh water always. If you are inclined grow some indoor kitty greens (usually wheatgrass or catnip) for him to munch on.
Animals, like children, like boundaries and discipline. Animals, like children, will test and challenge those boundaries. Animals, like some children, (or I should say most animals) are food oriented/food motivated and will cave eventually when it comes to eating.
If you are concerned that he isn't eating after a while and does appear to be losing weight consult with the vet but do not give in to the vet's expensive food!!
Your cat will survive this. He'll be a real *joy* to be around for a while. Hah. But he will resume eating and life shall go on.
Meow.

Oh wow, thats so interesting, thanks Ted. I had no idea, the poor guy,
Maybe I'll add some Catnip to the greens and
things ZenHussy recommended just to ease the transition.

yesac,
Who not what is IsoM? Hee hee.
IsoM is a very dear poster who is cat savvy and much missed around these here parts.
I was just putting a holler out should IsoM be lurking. My hope is that the summer has been a busy one for IsoM.

Oh... lol... I just thought it was another of those IMHO (which took me a while to figure out) sort of things! Now that I think about it, I do recall seeing the name here and there.

My pussy is a very fussy eater.Doesn't even like expensive food.
Only eats a little--isn't skinny-but close to it.
Don't give in to the cute meows--mine likes tuna also but stopped it and resorted back to catfood.
Last night she caught a bird..they tease and play for ages--cruel nature.
She now lives outside which is good cause she's got fleas

Sorry to be such a prude, but please don't use language that could be considered vulgar or obscene, thanks.

Either "mule" or "donkey" would've been fine...

Dr. Bob,

You will find that *** (the 3-letter word you find offensive) is THE CORRECT term for donkey, burro, etc. So for Gabbi to use Donkey as a substitute would force her to use an incorrect term for what she meant.
'nuff said.

Hi, guys.
I was reading through this thread and saw the "semantic" turn it took.
Yeah, a** is probably a correct term to describe stubborness. I don't think anyone would dispute you on this. I just think that the use of the word a** has become more like vulgar slang and really could offend someone.
Please don't take offense at Dr. Bob's post. You probably didn't -- but the tone of your e-mail suggests you might have. I'm sure it was just a gentle reminder.
We can be technically correct and polite at the same time.

I don't really think its semantics though
the correct term for donkey is an**
using a correct term is hardly uncivil. It seems silly to have to use an incorrect term
because the sound of an a** may offend someone.
especially when its been used before on the board
to describe a donkey.
actually this month and not been given a P.B.C.And I was actually not trying to be nasty toward
Dr. Bob, it was meant as a gentle Ribbing..

Hope you didn't take offense.
