Can't get over it already!?!

Posted by sarita0001 on September 19, 2003, at 21:49:01

Hi,

I was just wondering if any of you out there can relate to what I have been feeling the last few months. I've had depression since I was 13, I'm 24 now and it was at its worst as a teenager and as time went on got better.

But now it's kind of like I am back to the feeling of being a teenager again. I guess I expected it to never be like that again and assumed things could only get better.

Anyways, so I started school and thought that would help. The thing is I am so fixated on this one issue in my life and regret decisions I have made. It's hard for me to get out of bed but I eventually do, exercise is rare these days, I want to pursue a relationship but my self confidence fluctuates so much but is usually zero, and it's hard to focus on school.

So I guess I am wondering if any of you have gotten stuck in a rut and what did it take to get out? I go to therapy 2x a week and I know it is up to me to get out of it, but it is years and years of built up stuff. Also it's nice to just vent.

Thanks.

Same problem! Help!

7 years of therapy.

No social life. No relationships. I want out of this.

<<Are you taking any meds? If so, perhaps the dosage/type should be reexamined....

Are you on any other meds for physical issues, like Accutane for acne....made me suicidal out of nowhere....

Are you female? Sorry, I don't recognize your name so I truly don't know. If so, it could be hormonal, including your thyroid. Have you had a physical lately?

<<I don't know what else to suggest...have you spoken to your therapist about it? It really could be something physical that's throwing you out of whack. Perhaps your diet has changed if you are back in school? Too much sugar makes me tired all the time....

<<I hope you are feeling better by now, since you posted a few days ago. What helps *me* is to take control of the situation, which is why I suggested seeing an MD for a physical/blood tests. If that's it, it's generally easily corrected. Or if it's AD meds that might need to be changed for you. As far as lifestyle. Taking larger doses of Omega 3 fatty acids (fish oil) is actually doing me a lot of good. Changing to whole wheat pasta, bread, etc. is helping with sugar dives. And just getting out and taking a 20 minute walk, even if it doesn't sound like much, perks me up a bit energy-wise....

Hope things feel better soon.

Susan

HI,

Thanks for the feedback. Getting a physical is a good idea. This year was the first time I ever changed my meds. I think it was kind of hard one me. I was on the same thing for 7 years, then lowered it and combined with Topamax(which can mess with hormones especially with women because it has testosterone). The doc did a bunch of tests, tsh, free t4, cbc, etc and everything was fine. But i wonder if all the years of lithium are affecting my thyroid maybe?

What kind of doctor did you see?

Thanks.
