You must read this aloud. . .

"A few light taps on the pane made him turn to the window. It had begun to snow again. He watched sleepily the flakes, silver and dark, falling obliquely against the lamplight. The time had come for him to set out on his journey westward. Yes, the newspapers were right: snow was general all over Ireland. It was falling on every part of the dark central plain, on the treeless hills, falling softly upon the Bog of Allen and, farther westward, softly falling into the dark mutinous Shannon waves. It was falling, too, upon every part of the lonely churchyard on the hill where Michael Furey lay buried. It lay thickly drifted on the crooked crosses and headstones, on the spears of the little gate, on the barren thorns. His soul swooned slowly as he heard the snow falling faintly through the universe and faintly falling, like the descent of their last end, upon all the living and the dead."

James Joyce, DUBLINERS (1916), "The Dead"

Is any one else watching these huge snow flakes...what an appropriate passage to have us read out loud to our loved ones. thank you. We were touched and I am inspired to get the book and have us read a page a night. I love seeing Ireland that way...

Hi Jai. I love that passage. The words are like music. Reading it makes me appreciate the beauty in this weather. Of course, tomorrow, when I have to dig myself out of the snow, I'll have a very different attitude!

Thank you for those words. Some of us are blessed by whomever it is that holds those sacred talents which warm the hearts and minds of the rest of us.

Well, we dug and dug...till our backs hurt. I am not digging today but still want to walk it the white stuff.
How are you doing? How many inches did you get? we are at 18inches and counting. so beautiful. the sun is out, the river is frozen and the mountain is a base of white peppered with hunter green fir trees. If I go out I will go snow blind...I hear the call of a red tail hawk as it drifts across the river.
all is fine and we are good.
