I'd buy Paul Simon. He'd live with me and sing to me and play with me. He's short and I'm tall.. Oh, the fun we could have. And he wouldn't care about my hairy butt, or flabby belly, or even the fact that I'm sick. We'd live in our mansion and I'd still see my shrink, as I'd pay off his supervisor. And I could afford my meds. And I'd be happy having such a wonderful man...Or maybe I'd buy kid (HA! I finally spelled your name right!!!) instead.

You know how sometimes you read about some town that's for sale. Well, I'd buy one. Then I'd fill it will psychiatric in-patients who are forced to stay in hospitals only because there is no community residence with an open bed, or because they have some minor health problem, etc. Then I'd go to animal shelters and adopt 100's of animals so all the patients could have pets to snuggle with.
And I'd save two houses; one for my T and one for my Pdoc cuz I don't go anywhere without them.
THEN, I'd get that liposuction.

No procedures for me - I'd spend a month or so in one of those spas where you go hiking in the day and then have people work on you at night.

You know, I used to be really money-oriented and since entering graduate school and becoming somewhat depressed, I have stopped caring about even that, But when I saw what others were posting, I guess I felt the hesrt of the question really was, what would we want if we could have anything in the world? My own response brings tears to my eyes because it reminds me of the voids in my life: I would want a mother like my T, or a relationship with her outside of therapy where she would "adopt" me as a daughter and we would spend nights snuggled on the couch just talking, I so desperately want to be held that way that it hurts physically to think about it; I would want to be pregnant, to feel life growing inside me because I think it would deeply move me and change me, and I would want to spend each day serving those who had nothing. I would spend my lesiure tume writing, appreciating art, music, literature, fine food and wine, and I would want the brick that seems to sit in my stomach every day to go away-- and most of all...I would want to be free from caring what anyone else in the world thinks of me.

If I could have anything in the world, I would have EVERY SINGLE PERSON on this earth have compassion for every other person.
I think that would help solve a lot of our problems... The definition (good lord! I used the spell check and my computer didn't freeze!! Yahoo!)
*: sympathetic consciousness of others' distress together with a DESIRE TO ALLEVIATE IT
I never realized how unsympathetic people are to each other's pains until I started listening to my boyfriend and other friends talk. My boyfriend would often say "That person (talking about a homeless man) needs to get a job." It broke my heart. I explained to him (who comes from a rather hmmmmmm.... privileged upbringing??? to say the least) that sometimes people have hard times, ect. He doesn't make comments like that anymore. I have another friend who always thinks "people" are out to get her, ect. For crying out loud, she's rude to everyone including telemarketers and she is one!!!
I just think that if everyone had compassion for eachother, we could all work together to solve the problems we have. We could find new medications and they wouldn't be so expensive. We could feed eachother.
I just wish that no one ever got hurt. That somehow we could stop world hunger, nuclear bombs, wars, greedy politicians and tyrants, little kids form falling off of their bikes even.... Oh, people say I'm a dreamer.. I just don't want anyone anywhere to ever hurt again. Not even a paper cut.... Is this possible?? And I only want to hear "YES" answers. Don't ruin my dream...

There is a Sci-fi story by Doris Lessing named:
"Shikasta"
In this story Doris tells us about the making of the planet Shikasta (i.e. the earth).
Her dedication for the book was to her father:For my father, who used to sit, hour after hour, night after night, outside our house in Africa, watching the stars. "Well," he would say, "if we blow ourselves up, there's plenty more where we came from!"
Some people love the book some don't. I was one who not only loved the book but think of it often.
The story goes like this:
The planet had another name till all the other planets around it fell into a difficult alignment and the (earth) got renamed Shikasta= the broken one.
To make a long story short....this appears to be the planet of suffering...we all suffer to learn compassion...just what you are saying.Your dream, desire, longing is shared by many of us on this sweet but suffering planet. You can help teach compassion by doing just what you are doing. Thank you from my soul.

Karen and Jai - You both reminded me of my most favorite quote:
"If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion." -- The Dalai Lama
